Notes
I purchased tickets for both nights as soon as they went on sale way back when.
Both for excellent seats, one in the balcony and one on the floor. Unfortunately,
due to various constraints I was unable to make the trip. Fortunately, I was
able to find a most awesome person who was willing to tape in my stead. This
person wishes to remain anonymous and will be referred to only as Swijj- say it
like Swidge and/or read it as Someone Who Isn't JonJon.

Swijj did a fantastic job juggling multiple sets of gear and sent me very clean
sources. Neither one is really 'better' than the other, but this one is the slightly
cleaner sounding of the two. I did some EQ work to lower the harsh treble and boomy
bass, and did some minor pleasantries like fades and dithering/resampling for the
wonderful people of Dime.

I was very bummed for a while after I figured out I wouldn't be able to get to LA
for multiple reasons. Opeth is one of my favourite bands, but on top this Opeth
were the first band I taped in 2009 and until this year I had seen and taped them
every year since. These would have been my seventh and eighth times seeing Opeth,
and for their 25th Anniversary tour on top of that! Beneath the Mire is one of
the songs I desperately wanted Opeth to pull out during a show, but having this
is a pretty decent replacement.

The show itself is pretty good. Beneath the Mire and Isolation Years are
my highlights. Unlike the Evolution XX shows where BWP was played entirely
uninterrupted, Mikael speaks often throughout both sets. Of interest to me is
that during the Evolution XX show in LA Mikael rhetorically asked the crowd if
they '...look like we take requests?' and replied 'Maybe when we're old and don't
give a fuck anymore.' And here we are, with around seven minutes of snippets of
various songs during the second set. This has been done at each of the 25th shows
and with different snippets each night, so it's unlikely to be completely staged.
Food for thought...

Anyway, thanks to Swijj for taping and being cool with circulation!
