frogster notes:

This was the concert number 1102 of The Never-Ending Tour, concert number 7 of the 1999 US Summer Tour with Paul Simon and concert number 56 of 1999. During this tour, Dylan was in better form compared to previous year and i think that is represented by the fact that he was touring with a much smaller band.

Like the previous torrent featuring Paul Simons set, the quality doesn't disappointthe instruments are loud but clear and while Bob Dylan isn't a shy person at all, this set features a more reserved Dylan, more focused on playing his songs. There are few moments where Dylan goes to the mic and speaks a little bit, but nothing like other shows where he would speak to the crowd while the band was getting ready for the next song.

This show is also interesting for Mr. Tambourine Man, with some funny vocal arrangements ("heymistertambourinemanwon'tyouplayasongformeI'mnotbusyandthereisnoplaceI'mgoingto, (pause), heymistertambourinemanwon'tyouplayasongformeinthejinglejanglemorningI'llcomefollowingyou." 2 lines. Not 4. And the only great harp solo of the night

I expect this to be an upgrade or at the very least, an excellent alternative to the recordings out there (LB-04431, LB-05540, LB-07112 and LB-07143).

BK Notes

In the wake of the passing of our partner Jared (the J in JEMS), the JEMS Archive has moved south, giving me the opportunity/burden of going through thousands of tapes as well as several hard drives onto which Jared put many tape transfers he made in the last five or so years. Heres another one of the latter, capturing the Bob Dylan half of a co-headlining tour stop with Paul Simon at the Gorge Amphitheatre.

On hand for this one were Jared and SG, the S in JEMS, who can be heard at the end of the show shouting More!

Jared was running his Nak 700s in the hat this night, and while theres a bit of excited crowd noise around, overall this is very good capture and pleasurable listen. Samples provided.

Thanks to frogster for volunteering to do some posting on JEMS behalf. Many hands make light work. Also thanks to Jared and SG for recording the show in the first place and making that horrible drive over the mountains and back.
