Notes:

This one came out sounding great straight from the recorder. All I had
to do was amplify it and roll just a bit of low end off to lose a bit of
muddiness and thumpiness.

If you've never experienced Mörglbl before, they're a hugely entertaining
guitar/bass/drum trio from France. Huge sense of humor. All three guys
are great on their respective instruments, but Godin is just next level
on guitar. Their set is a mix of metal, jazz and comedy.

Towards the beginning of the set Christophe Godin asks if the band could
get some beers, and by the end of the next song the stage was littered
with cans, cups and bottles of beer. I think the bassist and drummer
might have had one each, but Godin was chugging them in between songs
and seemed pretty lit by the end of the set. Still played like a champ.

Near the end of the set they had Paul Sears come up and play drums and
Mike Keneally come up to sing on a cover of Purple Haze. Paul invited a
woman named Natasha to also come up and sing, and a young boy from the
audience went up and danced. It was...a bit of a trainwreck, but one of
those things that makes me love ProgDay.

I have all the band's albums (bought the two most recent ones that weekend),
so I figured I wouldn't have any problems identifying the songs, but
Godin made it super-easy on me by introducing almost all of them by name.

A couple audio artifacts that you might wonder about: around mid-way through
the "intros and thank yous" track there's a squealing noise - the bassist
briefly put a plastic cup over his microphone and caused a blast of feedback.
During the "sadness & Raging Bitch" track there's a loud knocking sound -
someone walking by banged their lawn chair into the back of my microphone.

I went way overboard taking pictures during this set because a Mörglbl
show is almost as entertaining visually as it is audibly. So there's
a bunch of pictures in this torrent, but there were even more that I
(grudgingly) didn't include.

About ProgDay:

ProgDay is an outdoor festival of progressive rock that has
been held annually since 1995. In 1996 it was expanded from
one day to two and has been featuring anywhere from eight to
eleven progressive rock bands each year since, with a few more
bands usually hosting related Thursday, Friday or Saturday night
events at nearby venues. It's definitely worth the trip if
you're a prog fan and don't mind a little heat and humidity
and a little driving around. I first went in 1997 and had
such a great time that I've been back every year since.

The main event takes place at beautiful Storybook Farm,
unless rain forces it indoors (which has fortunately only
happened a couple times in the festival's history). It's
a relaxed atmosphere, where you can listen and watch from
anywhere you want - if you really like a particular band,
you can sit right up against the stage (if you get there
early enough to claim the space). Some people listen
to the bands while shopping for CDs and merchandise in the
vendor tent or getting food in the pavilion or playing
frisbee in the field behind the audience or just sharing
a beer or two with friends.

The people are friendly, and the band members often hang out
all weekend taking in the show, selling merchandise and
chatting with fans when they're not on stage. If you're a
prog rock fan and can possibly attend, make every effort to
attend.

the festival afloat (and ensure more of these ProgDay torrents
in the future), please visit:
