Soon after about half of Massachusetts had to deal with one of the hardest hangovers in
U.S. history (Ray Gun's re-election), we got a little bit of relief in the form of a live
Jon Butcher Axis broadcast, one of just a few from the historic Channel club on Boston's
waterfront. This is a full show, just prior to a national tour for JBA, and the year after
his 1st big hit (that I know of), "life takes a life". This one is a promo for his 2nd
album, Staring at the Sun, and includes several songs from that album. I don't recall
hearing the word "CD" once in this broadcast, and this comes from a tape source- my FM
master cassette. The sound is pretty good on this, although it is from before I got my
Naka. cassette deck. Although the Houston filler (from the K.B.F.H.) overfills an 80 min.
disc for this, I included it because it includes 3 of their most popular hits, I thought
the version of life takes a life was a little better in Houston, and there isn't alot of
live JBA out there, and these are my only 2 recordings of them. (both on same 90 min. tape).
I don't listen to them very often, but they are fairly popular and if anyone out there wants
to hear a good pop/rock band that has probably been forgotten by many and is not heard much
anymore, here's your chance. I guess the Ocean in Motion song was big at this time in Boston,
big enough to play it twice (this is NOT a tracking error.)
If you like Jon Butcher, I have another broadcast of Jon Butcher from Boston in 1989
(after he had dropped his "axis") which is a little better sound than this is (from reel master).
I will post that if there's interest. Both this and that are complete and inspired shows.
This one has 1 tape flip about 45 min. in between songs so no music is missing from this at all.
The show actually started after midnight into Feb. 26th but billed as 2/25/84 concert. I think
there were some openers (not broadcasted) and just 1 set for JBA but I'm not certain of that.
The Channel was a cool place, like so many in Boston, long gone now to make room for insanely
overpriced condos and garishly pricey stores most of us can't afford to walk into. (or wouldn't
have any reason to).
Do not sell this recording.
Trade freely and losslessly.
