comments:
I believe this is one full night of Genesis at the Centrum. Not sure if
this was the only night this tour or not, think they did 3 nights on 1987 tour
in Worcester. It's missing the 1st few seconds of Mama, but that's all,
as Phil would say, and sings in this show. I think the track 5 title is right,
I am sure about all the others. All 3 flips were between songs and the
enthusiastic crowd response is not an overbearing factor in this recording.
I'm not sure at all who recorded this one, but he (or she?) did a good job.
I think this was the 1st Genesis tour since 83, alot of people seemed up and
ready for it, so did Genesis. Same tour as the KBFH show from L.A. 86, just
later into it and this one is within a few seconds of a whole show.
(Invisible Touch tour). Pretty good show it is too, and I'm not a big fan of
Genesis in the 80's. The only Genesis tour planned for the U.S.A. since this
one was the Calling All Stations (too bad nobody's answering) tour (97?)
and I think all of Genesis would rather we all forget about that one, as they
did very early into it (if it even got started at all). This tour not only started,
it would be a full length Genesis tour, and obviously based on the crowd response,
they didn't have to call many stations for this one, since several songs on this
tour became hits or got good airplay time on FM radio. Genesis was turned on again
for this one, part of Tonight... is a bit ragged, most of it and everything else
was a good performance, inspired and tight. Most Mass. Genesis fans of today
(who are still fans of more recent Genesis music) remember this tour, maybe
this concert as the last time they saw Genesis with Phil Collins, and
without Peter, Steve and Phil, well, I won't bother going into my never-aired
"History of Genesis" except to say that their 87 and 83 tours do have some good
pop songs in them. I can only take limited doses of Phil's singing, but one
thing I must give Phil credit for. He enjoys performing a show, and when
he's not singing, he's a very good drummer.
