Bootleg Title:
"At The Beeb"
Manuf.: Mainstream 02/2003
*Review from Bobsboots:
The BBC television broadcast recordings are not true 'professional' soundboard recordings. Instead they are home made (recorded via a microphone going into a tape recorder placed in front of the television speaker during the broadcast). The resulting tapes were of only mediocre quality, marred by a high noise level and a thin sound. For this release, however, the label has done an absolutely astonishing job. On close inspection, you're most likely listening to an exemplary remastering of the best currently circulating tape. But at first, I thought I was hearing the long rumored professional soundboard recordings of these shows. Virtually all of the intrusive white noise is gone. The sound is loud, clear, and well defined; but it still sounds natural... not artificially cleaned up with clinical digital clarity. The great performance (now enhanced by this superb quality) sounds better than ever. This is a lovely release from a historical point of view, a wonderful snapshot of 1965, and (at least until such time that those master soundboard tapes turn up) a must-have disc.

"Electric Black Nite Crash"
Manufacturer: Junkyard Angel 1998
*Review from Bobsboots e07:
The newly surfaced Hollywood Bowl tape is every bit as fascinating as had been rumored.
The acoustic set is breath-taking perfection. The electric set doesn't 'crash' quite as hard as it will in the year to follow, but that's what makes it so wonderful. It shows an artist testing the waters for the onslaught to come. The cover photo of Dylan behind an interview microphone is spellbinding. The back cover contains the surrealistic artwork 'Desolation Row' from the 1970 LP release 'Daddy Rollin' Stone'. The title comes from a rare 1971 LP 'Black Nite Crash'. The only other relation they share is an early '60s acoustic set followed by the crash. This show is both historic, and wonderful listening.

SOUNDBOARD RECORDING
*Recording as complete and in as high grade as known to circulate*
*CGD:These acetates are a considerable upgrade on the previous versions that circulated generally, which are thought to have been no better than 2nd analog gen. They are not perfect; there are a number of skips and crakles from the original source, although these have been minimised by the CD-R producer. They reportedly were mastered from an analog tape taken directly from the original acetates. The duplication of "Baby Blue" and "Johanna" on D1 has not been expained, and the tracks are not identical.

Manufacturer:
Shamrock 2001
*Review from Bobsboots:
This complete soundboard recording is an upgrade of the already impressive recording that appeared on the 1996 CD release: "Blown Out On The Trail". The quality here is astounding. Taken from a lower generation source tape, there's less hiss, far greater dynamic range, and the occasional digital skips that were present on the earlier release are now gone. 1988 was an exceptional year, and this performance shines as the best of the best. The many mouth-watering highlights include an electric arrangement of 'Gates Of Eden' and a magnificent 'You're A Big Girl Now'. This is, without doubt, an essential listening experience. Packaging is as a mini-LP. The cardboard gatefold cover opens to reveal sleeves that house thick paper 'Shamrock' dust covers. These generic Label logo covers protect the enclosed disc.

After a while he jumps down and walks up the aisle, still playing the harmonica, and disappears through one of the exit doors. The other members of the band look totally confused, but continue playing for quite awhile, not knowing if Bob is coming back or not. But he doesn't and the band ends the song somewhat abruptly. The Dylan folklore has it that his bicycle was waiting for him outside the theater and that he simply cycled home to his apartment in Manhattan!** |

Bootleg Title:
"Woodstock 94"
Review from Bobsboots:
Somewhat of an opportunist Label, LL released this CD in a completely generic (save for 'Bob Dylan' typed on the front) cover, that it could use for many other releases. No awards for packaging. The sound quality is excellent, however, in the first three tracks Bob sings with total detachment. He's rushing over the songs as if he's late to catch the bus going anywhere but here. As the show goes on, he slows a bit, and things get better. This CD contains the complete Woodstock 1994 show. Quality-wise (compared to the earlier releases of this show), this is the best. However, Crystal Cat has released the definitive package.

"Tailgates & Substitutes" - Unknown Manufacturer
*Review from Bobsboots:
This is a great set, representing a wonderful show. The vocals and instruments are well separated. Everything is crisp and well pronounced in the warm, full sounding mix. Dylan pours himself into every song, and there's not a weak one in the entire show. "Love Sick" becomes the first ever live performance from the Time Out Of Mindrelease. The package aesthetics and photos are classy, and the superb filler material is the unique songs performed the following night.

*Bootleg Title: "Never Mind The Bollocks, Her's Bob Dylan" - Maufacturer-Digital Sounds
Review from Bobsboots:
This two CD package presents the complete Cardiff show in great quality. The band is tight and well mixed. Vocals are strong and up front.
The filler is great stuff as well. On the initial release of this CD, the sound quality of the filler material is relatively poor quality. This was soon corrected, however. The only thing that I find offensive is the cheaply done cover. Instead of Bob content, it takes the title and graphics from a 'Sex Pistols' LP. There are far too few cross-over fans of the two artists to appreciate the intended pun, and it leaves the Dylan fan with a feeling of depravation. The only nicety is a repro Euro tour poster on the tray liner.
