This is one cool dude with a ton of music. He hooked me up phat with some tasty shows...and shared his knowledge freely (I never knew about rule #5).

I got a l/p from Scott, and after a few emails back and forth to each other, he quickly offered me space on his server for the weekend (which in this case was almost 4 days worth of downloading!!) I told him I didn't have a lot of music in my collection, so he quickly responded with, "Grab whatever you can/want until Monday!" (This, by the way, was on Thursday) I ran into some problems (setting up a new computer in the middle of the weekend), and Scott had no problem whatsoever with anything. If you ever get the chance to login to this guys server, my advice is, play by his rules, and the sky's the limit as to what kind of additions you'll soon have in your collection. Thanks so much for all of your kindness, Scott. I

I'm fairly new to etree, I responded to the shnaholics login offer.
I found him to be generous with his server. The content of his server justs blows away everyone I've seen.

Reading some of the past negative messages made me laugh. Not so much as to 'who did what to whom' or whatever it was about but tothis responses.

How can anyone gripe about downloading music from a great catalog?

Thanks again

Scoot is not one to mix words. He tells you like it is and there really isn't any gray area. If you listen to him, follow his rules(he is entitled since he is offering up an incredible amount of tunes on his own time) then you really won't have any problems, and you will have access to a fantastic amount of music. He was very generous, quick to answer questions, and never asked for a thing in return. Thanks for the tunes Scott!!
Response: hmm, generous, quick to answer questions and not asking for anything in return...must be my not mixing words that only rates a 4. ooops there i go again, not mixing my words. im glad you think im entitled to have rules on my own servers. so many people think since i allow them to login, they can disregard the settings i ask for on my info page. you forgot to mention im also sarcastic and cynical as hell.

What can you say? Anyone whose spent any time in this community knows what Scotts' all about- THE MUSIC. As a newbie about a year ago, Scott shared somne really great shows with me to help me get started. I appreciate the patience and assistance he has shwon when I started downloading shows, and he ahs never refused a request for something off his list. I really appreciate the personal touch he shows while trading - the 99' Halloween show photo of SCI was classic :}! I just hope more traders use Scott as an example.

He has made some great recommendations. Thanks so much for the tunes!

I don't even know where to start when giving kudos to Scott. I had multiple problems with my FTP clients, and although I could tell it was a little annoying, he helped me through it and I have gotten some rock solid tunes since. I appreciate honesty, and Scott gives you that - I wish more people did. Finally, I'll end by saying that Scott does our community a great service by serving up the crispy Dead, I've thoughroughly enjoyed the last few days and hope to get back to the ranch someday!!! Thanks a lot Scott!!!

Scott rocks, period. I appreciate the standards he adheres to. You know you will get a quality product from the shnaholic. Scott was a huge help to me when I first set up my server. He assisted me via email and finally via the telephone. Without his help, it's likely I wouldn't have persisted through configuration.

THANKS SCOTT!!

Wow, I have to give some big props. Thanks so
much for all of this new music. I have recently
set up a small server on a T1, and rotate the
content quite often. Also, I have been hosting
a few BitTorrent sessions, all of which have been
very popular. I know that this new stuff will
also be spread far and wide. (And the quality
is top notch.) All of this was made possible
through Scott's dedication to what he does. He
had a hardware problem over the weekend, forcing
him offline. He was back online the next day,
not only with a flawlessly operating server,
but he had added new content during the downtime!

BTW, I pulled 5.94 GB in a short amount of time...just by playing by the rules.
What Fun!

Thanks again Scott,

Chris Jones

Lots of comments and responses. I especially liked the responses. I agree with the user that said "Keep up the trivia". Okay, let me get this straight. A couple of users talked shit, but everyone else, myself included, have nothing but good stuff to say. You are never going to please all the users so don't take offense. The user that made the mistake, carry on, and remember the person you bad mouth in an email, may be your boss. Or he may be the operator of a hugh server that has supplied millions of listeners with life changing tunes.

We didn't do a trade, per se, but rather I was granted access to shnaholics server for the weekend follwoing a posting to the etrade list.

Great server, rock solid connection and good bandwidth. Gave me a little bit of OT the following day so I could complete my final transfer.

Asked nothing in return but that I share the music.

Guys like shnaholic are what make the community work.

9.25.02

This guy put out the Terrapin Station Other Ones Cd's for B&P's a couple days after the shows....For ALOT of people.Every time I've dealt with the Shnaholic, he has gone out of his way to accomadate me. He even sent a great Phil pic! with my CD's in the mail. Etrading was on one of the fastest servers I've used

11.18.02

Once again, this guy put out the Other ones from 11.15.02 TWO DAYS after the show!!! When I complimented him on it, his reply was "i did not tape the show.? i am merely helping to spread it". I can't say how much I admire this guy- He offers logins and HUGE b&p's to anyone. All he asks is to follow the rules, Frankly I ask the same when I offer B&P' s too. I think that this guy is high on my "top 5" etree seeders and spreaders.

Scott promised me a login after he downloaded a bunch of stuff from. All he did was deliver on his promise. Even when I had trouble logging in he remedied it. But most importantly he hosts an incredible amount of Dead. He really does the community a service. I wish I could host half of what he did. He should get some kind of honorary Etree award. Anyone who bashed him clearly must also belive that priests having sex with boys is OK too!!

Tom has opened his server to me on multiple occasions and allowed me to puruse and grab any and all shows that I could want. He has kindly sought missing tracks for me on failed MD5's, opened up the bandwidth on occasions for me and has ALWAYS been in contact for all my questions.
Thanks for all the time I have been allocated on your server.

A Man of few words - After knowing Scott a very short while the weekend logins began to come without me asking - I just recommend that you know your client, and respect this Gem of a ServerOp. As long as you do that the possibilities are exponential. I truly enjoy the experience every time. I even got a new nickname out of the deal.

I truely can't believe all this!I expected to give a quick thanx and a thumbs up but,as for a few of the comments above.I must say as a Newbie myself,i've been on both lists a few months..And not having much to trade except what ive managed to pull from Announce servers makes it pretty hard to get a good login.Add on top of that i couldnt get my server to be at all stable, until recently. Now, i'm sure hundreds if not thousands of newbies have these same problems. In comes Shnaholic ASKING FOR NOTHING!!!Offering sooo much not a show, NO ALL NIGHT whatever you can take!Sweet and simple, you cant bitch when someone else has gone out of there way for YOU!The simple rules to abid!He even tells you why!Well i guess a few out of the hundreds hes probably helped will get confused.Keep that Trivia coming! A true asset to the etrade community.A big FANtastic from this Newbie. Thanks

THIS TRADING THING IS SIMPLE. IF SOMEONE IS SO GENEROUS AS TO OFFER OUT ANY MUSIC AT ALL, THAT IN ITSELF IS AWESOME. IF YOU WANT TO SHARE IN SOMEONES OFFER, SIMPLY ABIDE BY THE "RULES" APPLIED TO THE DEAL. SIMPLE. IT'S NOT EASY NOR PARTICULARILY REWARDING TO OFFER OUT B&P SERVITUDE. THIS DUDE OFFERS OUT ALL KINDS OF ACCESS ALL KINDS OF WAYS AT ALL KINDS OF HOURS. I AM A RELATIVE NEWBIE AND SHNAHOLIC IS MOST LIKELY THE MOST PROLIFIC DISTRIBUTOR OF TUNES ON THIS LIST. SHARE, RESHARE, ENJOY. IF NOT, GET OUT. PASTA LA FEASTA

Shnaholic has been great to me so far...He has a very fast server, and allows me to download anything as long as the rules are followed. Very few people have multiple copies of single shows, much less serve them, but he does. He has been very responsive to questions and emails, as well. After I wrote this, shnaholic asked me stay off his server so he could do some maintenance work. I complied, and he wrote back saying it was going to take a while, and I could get back on to finish. I wrote him back telling him to take his time, and he replied by telling me he had deleted my login. When I inquired as to why...smart ass reply. I wrote him stating that I was just trying to be patient, and I would just eliminate the partial from 10 hours before...and he emailed this "hahaha yeah man whatever." At the bottom of the email was this comment..."replies to this email cannot be processed." Advice: if you expect a complete show or even common courtesy, stay away from this guy.
Response: you really just had to make this harder than it had to be. i gave you several chances to finish up, you declined. after your last sanctimonious bullshit email to me, i decided to just say "whatever" rather than rip you the new asshole you deserved. this isnt all about you you you, though you seem to think it is. i deleted all the logins from the past week, not just yours. if you cant handle the way this server gets admin'd, please get your music from one or more of the other servers out there. this stealthed server has a time frame when i can get over and do the work i need to on it, so if it conflicts with your schedule or uptime, that's just the way it is. if you cant play by the simple rules, please dont walk away mad, just walk away. i gave up trying to please every single person who logs in a long time ago. you just cant do it. self expression on the internet is difficult cause noone can read your "intent" or your sarcasm or your cynicism. obviously some people need handheld during their session and im not about that. i have limited time to deal with the server due to where it resides and certain considerations that must be taken into account which may or may not cause the downloader some problems. we all have our own optimal time for being able to do this kind of stuff, conflicts arise and that's just the way it is. this time it didnt work out. im on to the next group of logins and will have to direct everyone who logs in to the rules section of the info page from now on...it can be found at the bottom of the info page.. i cycle the l/ps weekly to allow the maximum number of downloaders. i serve up a ton of tunes from the the SDSL line in "the basement"...if tripp cant handle the way i do it, im not losing any sleep over it. as this server setup and P2P FTP file sharing are in continual states of flux, we will endeavor to make sure no conflicts like this arise in the future. nobody is perfect, and we make no promises regarding the happy time rose colored glasses wearing FTP session we all deserve. until the situation with my server connection changes to a point where i can run 24x7, i will continue to keep the server private and only offer logins thru my info page and offers to the etrade list. i try and do the best i can with limited resources, and my strong opinions are sometimes mistaken for arrogance. it happens. bottom line here is, its my server and it has rules, if you cant handle rules, go elsewhere. it's a free country. (at least for now til john ashcroft and dubya get their way)

I was lucky enough to win a login to shnaholic's sever. This was originally for an overnight login which he graciously turned into a weekend login! Very kind. I got da kine jams. And now it appears I've been blessed to go back for more!! AH YEAH. Keep spreading the good vibes...
Response: it's not so much a contest to get in, but my server applications require me to adhere to a strict set of guidelines and sometimes it's too hard for some people to grasp. tonys experience is what i strive for by serving up tunes and is also a prime example of how you can maximize your time spent on a server to grab some sick sick shows as long as you can read and follow simple ftp guidleines and server rules. i find that i let the more ftp proficient login several times while i tend to limit newbs to one or 2 overnight all you can eat sessions. experience pays well in this arena.

one of the coolest siteops out there (no disrespect meant to anyone else). as long as i play by the rules of his server (yeah, sometimes we have to play by the rules, people), i have gotten hooked up with awesome tunes, great logins, and fantastic email conversations back and forth. scott has never been anything other than completely helpful to me, and i totally recommend getting on his good side, so he'll let you abuse his server. :)

Took him up on a generous offer for gd1979-12-01 at the Warfield and the upload commenced immediately. The show was incredible as promised.

Good guy, quick to respond, and very generous to boot. An asset to the etree community.
Response: umm i believe it was the stanley theater in pgh, not the warfield. the show does kick ass doesnt it?

I don't want to be too fluffy here because that's not Mr. shnaholic's style, but I have to say of all the great people I've met and shared music with in the community, he's one of the best. I don't know what that one guy's glitch is, but when I had connection problems and a storm roll through, he was nothing but patient and straightforward. He selflessly shares his great Dead and SCI catalogue, and is always offering up WOB logins and BnPs, even when he's just posting to answer someone's question or help people brush up on list etiquette. He makes the community tick, and he's got a fun webpage to boot. Thanks, man.

He is more than generous! I had a question about configuring some software. He was the first to respond, giving me his phone #, & telling me to call him and he would step me through it. I did & he did! Everything worked perfect & extremely fast. This is exactly how this community is supposed be. People helping people! Thank you very much shnaholic! I really truly appreciate it!
Response: not a problem.

I just happened to get a peek at the negative comment on Scott's list and had to put up a rebuttal. People, this guy puts more out there than Wynona Rider at her loosest. Seriously, and considering the volume of time and effort involved to spread it 'round as heavily as he does, it makes sence to me that a modicum of particulars are required to keep it all organized. In my own experience it has been several easy trades and many downright gifts from Scott that that pulled me into the .shn game from the analog dungeon I was so ill fond of. Scott certainly ranks amongst the highest caliber of trader in a community of excellent people. Don't let one guys lack of common sense disuade you from e-hanging with Scott here. He's the real deal.

Honestly, I'm not really clear why Mr. Lippert is badmouthing him. I can only guess that they had some kind of misunderstanding, because shnaholic has, without a doubt, been the most generous trader I have encountered on etree/etrade. All told, he has probably shared at least 20-30 shows with me. Since he isn't currently trading, the only thing he has ever asked in return is that I follow his rules, which are clearly outlined on his website.
While shnaholic doesn't couch his words in flowery phrases like "Oh I love the etree community so much and I just want to trade tons of fantastics shows with all the wonderful people out there", he certainly has given a great deal to the etree community. I don't doubt that ~many~ etree members either directly or indirectly received a goodly number of high quality shows from him. Overall, he has been insanely generous.
Response: hey thanx for props. now where did i put my copy of cd architect?....dammit it was here a second ago..... ;o)

Generous trade, flawlessly executed- and he even sent a bonus photo! Thanks a bunch, kind sir! -Diana
