The trio met Bobby for the first time 90 minutes before this show. His plane was about two hours late and we were nervous, to say the least. On the way into Bozeman from the airport Bobby put us all at ease with his gracious humor and confidence. Freddie Hubbard had told him about the trio and he said he wasn't worried at all. Our nerves do show some in the recordings as I like to call this performance "the rushing show"! Yeah, some of the tempos pick up noticeably but all in all it was a great first night and the energy was high. He just got on stage and started calling tunes and we responded the best we could...this is how the repertoire developed for the rest of the tour.

Here are some notes from the 1st file:

Kelly Roberti had been on a 2 week jaunt w/ Legendary Saxophonist David Murray and his quartet (Murray,Lafayette Gilchrest and Pheeroan Aklaff) playing gigs in Milwaukee,St.Paul,Chicago & Boston. Murray returned to Bozeman,MT w/ Roberti for a couple of gigs and clinics w/ The Kelly Roberti Sextet. These recordings were made on the 1st couple of days in April,2006. The trumpet player in the sextet (who has since sadly passed on) Ralph Sappington had a badly bleeding lip on the gig...Jazz trumpet legend Jack Walrath (amazing player) called Roberti from Billings,MT and came over to join the group on the 2nd night...some of it recorded here.
