Development Notes

Toma has been the primary developer for db.etree since 1999. (Some of the documentation, instructions, look and feel, and administrative tools are coded by mgoldey.) Some development notes can be found in the DbNews. This page will contain solutions to problems from September 2006 and beyond.

  • The faq&help now looks like the rest of the site. It, as well as wiki.etree, use a smartified version of tavi.
  • All pages are regenerated every load until I fix the {nocache bug. A reload link at the top of every page will reload the page with force_refresh, but fell victim to nocache too. It'll be a good feature once the bug is fixed.
  • Mike sent all sorts of good bittorrent code my way; I forwarded on the jems. He hails from ti85 and may not have grown out of a hacker mentality. A fantastic resoruce for researching solutions to our (bittorrent) problem though!
  • datemask.js allows for ?? dates now. (echoing cheers reverberate) Does that mean I can put upload.php back in place on bt?
  • A significant change to smarty refresh handling, I enabled the 304 check. Make note of the numbers: Code 304 - Not Modified 1117740 - 9/20/2006 I'm sure they'll sky rocket right away;
  • Cache and time in bottom right of index,
  • Links to etree sites in header of most forum templates.
  • Renamed ghost-test forum template, written for xmen, to e men.

Datemask.js is the most complete datemasking code I've seen, but then, I wrote it.

Don't give mikepanic access to your code. He's a great resource but is infamous for running communities on his terms.

Ongoing problems with bittorrent include degraded performance thanks to torrent indexing sites spidering our goods. Media Tracker, a company hired by the RIAA is deliberatly poisioning our torrents. Links between db & bt are no longer active. bt.etree looks like crap.

It's about time to start indexing archive, bt, shnflac, etc. and listing direct download links on db.
