Notes: From Chris Dixon's Anniversary Series ? C S Dixon snip ~ This is an audience tape and quality leaves a bit to be desired. It's distorted (tho we've heard a *lot* worse) and the vocals are very low in places (no doubt the PA system was laughable even by the standards of the day!). Noel's bass is almost non existent but in all it's a good listen IMO. As always, the sonic limitations pale next to the historical importance (especially so in this unique case).

Heavily eq'd digital mono 2nd gen source. This source was used to patch the cut before Catfish Blues. The MC's speech after Wild Thing is missing. The cut before Catfish Blues takes place after Jimi mentions Muddy Waters. There's a short repeat section on the tape at this point so there's actually no audio lost."

Notes: DVD 1303; lineage: Low gen composite. Composite of two sources, phase & pitch corrected (by +5%). A raw low gen source was used as the main source. A cut before Catfish Blues was patched from a heavily eq'd 2nd gen source, the eq was reversed but since the 2nd gen tape was digital mono there is a change in the hiss (from stereo to mono) in the patched section. Some clicks not on the master were removed and drop-outs fixed (as well as possible) at 0.39 in Rock Me Baby, 2.24 in Hey Joe and 6.40 in Wild Thing. Source 1: Master (reel?) > ? > cdr > cdr > wav. Raw low gen source. The MC's speech after Wild Thing is complete. The cut before Catfish Blues takes place before Jimi mentions Muddy Waters, several seconds are missing. Phase & pitch corrected (by +5%). Source 2: Master (reel?) > 2nd gen Heavily eq'd digital mono 2nd gen source. This source was used to patch the cut before Catfish Blues. The MC's speech after Wild Thing is missing. The cut before Catfish Blues takes place after Jimi mentions Muddy Waters. There's a short repeat section on the tape at this point so there's actually no audio lost. At least the first two drop-outs were not on the original master as they are in stereo which is why it was possible to improve them by patching one channel with the other. Ultimately this composite is a compromise for the time being, somewhere there must be a straight low gen transfer of the complete uncut mono master or perhaps the master itself will pop up one day.

Video Master > video > CDR > Soundstudio > Shorten > SHN 1-9. Flamingo Club, London 4 Feb 1967 10-11. Corn Exchange, Chelmsford 25 Feb 1967 12-14. Grand & national Halls, London 22 December 1967 Notes: The Flamingo Club recording is the earliest known recording of the band in concert in England. It's really very good for a recording of this vintage with clear enough vocals and guitar and it's the closest we are likely to get to the experience of the band in a small club situation as they broke new ground in the early months of 1967. The Chelmsford tracks from the same month are taken from a tv programme recorded for Dutch tv. If the whole of the concert was professionally recorded the only surviving footage is represented by these two tracks. The final three tracks come from the last concert played by the Experience in the UK in 1967. NB: There is some wobble in the sound during Wild Thing but this recording comes from the unfinished footage of the track.

Notes: The beginning of 'Killing Floor' is missing and fades in midway through the song. This is an audience tape and the quality isn't the greatest, but it's perfectly listenable. The vocals are very low in places (no doubt due to the PA system) and Noel's bass is almost non existent, but the sonic limitations give way to the historical significance of this show.
