| Notes: | Hot on the heels of George Harrison's officially remastered edition of All Things Must Pass comes Repro-Man's All Things Must Surface: The Making Of All Things Must Pass Part2, a collection of newly uncovered acetates. While several of these performances have been heard previously on other collections, this collection of early stereo mixes is quite a revelatory experience. This follow-up to 1997's The Making Of All Things Must Pass features two CDs of the unexpurgated acetates of songs released and unreleased from the LP, with additional material culled from other top-quality sources to provide the perfect companion piece to that set. So grab your gnomes and a big floppy hat, gather around the stereo set, and enjoy some vintage George Harrison (and talented friends). I've typed in George's own comments on some of the songs from the inner booklet. Disc 1 Hear Me Lord (Acetate) Let It Down (Acetate) Awaiting On You All (Acetate) Run Of The Mill (Acetate) Run Of The Mill (Acetate) Art Of Dying (Acetate) What Is Life (Acetate) Isn't It A Pity (Acetate) Isn't It A Pity (Acetate) "Isn't It A Pity" is about whenever a relationship hits a down point - instead of whatever other people do (like breaking each other's jaws) I wrote a song. It was a chance to realize that I felt somebody had let me down, then there's a good chance I was letting someone else down. We all tend to break each other's hearts, talking and not giving back - isn't It a pity. Behind That Locked Door (Acetate) "Behind That Locked Door" was when Bob Dylan was playing at the Isle of Wight soon after his Nashville Skyline album. I wrote this song about him. It was a good excuse to do a country tune with pedal steel guitar. All Things Must Pass (Acetate) When I wrote "All Things Must Pass" I was trying to do a Robbie Robertson - Band sort of tune and that is what it turned into. I think the whole idea of -All Things Must Pass- has been written up by all kinds of mystics and ex-mystics including Timothy Leary in his psychedelic poems. I Live For You (Acetate) Beware Of Darkness (Acetate) Down To The River (Acetate) Whenever (Acetate) It's Johnny's Birthday (Alternate-Version) Pete Drake And His Amazing Talking Guitar (Acetate, Alternate-Version) Disc 2 Wah-Wah (Acetate) "Wah-Wah" was written during the Let It Be fiasco, which began with the rehearsal of songs and ended up as the movie Let It Be. We had been away from each other after having had a very difficult time recording the White album. That double album was so long it went on forever, and there were all kinds of other bullshit things happening in the band; pressures and problems and after that we came back from a holiday, and went straight back into the old routine. It is that concept of how everybody sees and treats everybody else, allowing no consideration that we are changing all the time. I remember Paul and I were trying to have an argument and the crew carried on filming and recording us. Anyway after one of those first mornings - I couldn't stand it; I decided this is it! - it's not fun anymore - it's very unhappy being in this band - it's a lot of crap - thank you I'm leaving. Wah-Wah was a 'headache' as well as a foot pedal. It was written during the time in the film where John and Yoko were freaking out screaming - I'd left the band, gone home - and wrote this tune. My Sweet Lord (Acetate) I was inspired to write "My Sweet Lord" by the Edwin Hawkins Singers' version of "Oh Happy Day". I thought a lot about whether to do "My Sweet Lord" or not, because I would be committing myself publicly and anticipated that a lot of people might get weird about it. Many people fear the words 'Lord' and 'God' - makes them angry for som strange reason. I Dig Love (Acetate) I Dig Love (Acetate) If Not For You (Acetate) Ballad Of Sir Frankie Crisp (Let It Roll) (Acetate) "The Ballad Of Sir Frankie Crisp" is a piece of personal indulgence inspired by an eccentric lawyer from the 1800's who I have come to know by becoming proprietor of his Victorian folly, my home. Sir Frank was also the authority on mediaeval gardens. Phil Spector said if I were to change the lyric I'd have a few cover versions of the song, but those words were written because that's what it was. I'd Have You Anytime (Acetate) Plug Me In (Acetate) Plug Me In (Acetate) Out Of The Blue (Acetate) It's Johnny's Birthday (Acetate) Plug Me In (Acetate) I Remember Jeep (Acetate) Thnks For The Pepperoni (Acetate) 15 - 40 A Conversation with George Harrison 2/15/01 (devided in Q & A about the 30th anniversary issue of ALL THINGS MUST PASS.) | |||||
