| Notes: | NIRVANA THE TRIPLE PLATINUM EP [bootleg] possibly from: April 2-6, 1990 Smart Studios Madison, WI SIDE A, 4:24 ----------------- 01) Not What It Means (In Bloom) SIDE B, 6:31 ----------------- 01) She Said (Breed) 02) Make It Big (Pay To Play/Stay Away) TRANSFER ----------------- bootleg 45 -> Denon DP-7F Direct Drive (Ortofon cartridge) -> Philips CDR-930 -> CD -> FLAC SOURCE ----------------- Unknown Source. This could be from a late generation cassette or reel due to certain intricasies evident in the recording. At the beginning of these tracks, there is what seems to be a dragging tape, so they all open up a bit muddy and sluggish. I played these songs against 04.xx.90 Smart Studios ANA(2)>Dat(1)>.SHN that I have, and either the speed is inconsistent on this record, or these are not sourced from Smart Studios after all. I'm by no means an expert, this is in fact the first torrent I have ever seeded, and thus I will leave the scrutinizing to those of us in the community who are experienced in such matters. NOTES ----------------- I don't own a scanner, so I took digital pictures of the cover and the disc. Sorry! TRANSFERRED BY monogwai PLEASE DO NOT hesitate to do whatever you want with these files. Who am I to tell you what to do? | |||||

| Notes: | NIRVANA April 2-6, 1990 Studio A, Smart Studios Madison, WI REMASTERED BY MIKE WILKINSON NON-OFFICIALLY RELEASED TRACKS ONLY ----------------- Imodium In Bloom (Alternate Mix - NOT RELEASED!) Lithium (mix 6) Sappy GENERATION ----------------- ANA(2) -> WAV [48kHz] -> WAV [44.1kHz] -> FLAC [Level 8] -> WAV [44.1kHz] -> REMASTER -> FLAC [Level 8] TRANSFER ----------------- Nakamichi CR-7A -> Hosa RCA cable -> LynxONE analog-in -> Adobe Audition 2.0 -> CD Wave 1.96.1 -> FLAC Frontend 1.7.1 Transferred by Mike Ziegler. Remastered by Mike Wilkinson, November 2007 PLEASE DO NOT ENCODE TO MP3 OR SELL! REMASTERING NOTES: ----------------- This tape, which is being called "Top Secret", has been deemed to be at the very least equivalent to "Kurt's Tape" in sound quality, and by the opinion of myself and many others, the current best source of this session, for the tracks that are not officially released. It is the smoothest sounding, has the best clarity and "punch", best stereo separation, less gritty and less overall hiss, and is overall the best source at this time. There are a couple characteristics of this tape that could stand to be improved, which is the reason for this remaster. 1) The tape has a deficit in high-end frequency. I used Pay To Play as the source comparison between this tape and the official release, for both Eq and Tape Speed. Those who prefer "Kurt's Tape" to "Top Secret" mainly cited that the former has greater high-frequency response. The Eq I have done, which is drawn from exactly the discrepancy between this tape and the official release, solidly removes that complaint as a reason not to acknowledge this "Top Secret" tape as the supreme source to date. 2) Throughout the tape, there is a repetitive clicking noise caused in all probability by the rotors of either the tape itself or one of the decks used in copying it somewhere in its lineage, and at the very least is most definitely caused by some mechanical issue. I have effectively silenced this clicking, to no more than at worst, 1/10 of its previous volume, and almost completely. This clicking was especially noticeable during the quiet parts of the songs. No more! 3) Lithium is missing the very end of the fade out at the end of the song. Very shortly before the song cuts off, I spliced the correct continuation of "I Kill You, I'm Not Gonna Crack, etc.." on to the point where it was cut off, copied from earlier in the song. I created a block of nothing but hiss from the tape (de-clicked as explained in point #2), then copied the correct segment for continuing the fade out of the song from earlier in the song, and then faded it out so it matched the duration of the entire fade out of the song as seen on other sources, and then reduced its volume to match the volume at the chopped-off end of the copy on this source, and then OVERLAID this segment on top of the block of hiss, and then stitched this composite onto the end of the chopped off segment. There is no less noticeable repair to this problem than using this procedure. | |||||
