Notes: Traded to me as 02-04-02 Recorded: 4th February 2002 Broadcast on Tuesday 30 April 10.00pm; rpt Tuesday 7 May 12.35am As a celebration of the life and work of Martin Carthy, BBC Four presents a unique concert exploring many of the songs and partnerships that have made him the touchstone of the English traditional folk scene for 40 years. For one night only, at Islington's Union Chapel, London, Martin was joined by many of his most famous collaborators; wife Norma and daughter Eliza - collectively Waterson-Carthy; fiddling partner Dave Swarbrick with whom Martin worked in a duo before Dave joined Fairport Convention in the late 60s; the extraordinary brass band Brass Monkey, featuring accordionist John Kirkpatrick; and current partners Chris Wood and Roger Wilson, reaffirming Martin's ability to bring old songs to life. The leading figure in the English folk revival that began in the Sixties, Martin was named "Folk Singer of the Year 2002" in Radio 2's Folk Awards earlier this year. He was also recently awarded the MBE for services to English music. Recorded from digital cable TV broadcast to hard drive & tracks split with CD Wave Audio Editor v1.71. Converted to shn format with MKWact v0.97 Beta 1.
