| Notes: | *** Notes: The first set is a 'mono surround' master made from two audience recordings mastered to quadraphonic surround for an immersive concert experience. This is another case where we have a 1st recorder from closer to the stage and a 2nd recorder further back in the room. By themselves, both recordings are a degree of challenging to listen to. The combination of the two reenforcing each other raises the sound to a surprising level as well as offering remains of the original live surround presentation. Although both recordings are monophonic, the quad surround format is needed to present the front to back perspective. So a mono source in both front and back for 'mono surround'. The second recorder only includes the first set. This second recorder overall has many more pronounced flaws and artifacts than R1 but it is also clearly recorded much closer to the stage than R1. These recordings reenforce each other in a dramatic way. You even hear some remains of the live surround play between them in spots like the bridge in Raving and Drooling in addition to the two recordings simply reenforcing each other. The weight of the live drum mix really comes across well. Everything is still very rough around the edges but the surround presentation puts you into the venue. Much like a real concert experience where the sound mix might not have been perfect at your seats anyway. Better seats for the first set here. Some parts sound downright good. Careful with the volume on this one. *** Sources: Recorder 1: 1974-11-29 Liverpool rec 1 Cass (unkn gen) stratcat58 [24-96] Original source lineage: Cass (unknown gen) (Maxell XLII 90 & 60 Epitaxial) (1985-6 type) > Technics RS-B565 > Focusrite Saffire Pro 14 > Reaper v4.76 > flac@24/96 Additional source lineage: flac@24/96 > TLH > wav@24/96 > Adobe Audition 3.0.1* Encoded to flac 8 with TLH, tagged with foobar2000 | |||||
