Notes: 'Iron Pigs On Fire' Info file says, "I'm the guy who recorded this show. I have the original analogue cassette tapes of it. Over the years I have traded analogue tape copies and have done one other digital transfer of it (Iron Pigs On Fire T-700). This is a revision of that release for the 30 year aniversary of the show. I have gone back to the original tapes as the source for this release (Iron Pigs On Fire T-700Rev.A)." Us and Them Band: Roger Waters David Gilmour Nick Mason Rick Wright Xref: Fort Worth 77 Quality: EX- GREEN MAN Comments: The first CD includes Shine On pts. 1-5, unlisted on the sleeve. So this is a complete show! The audience is generally very quiet, and you can tell the mics were not real high up since the little talking you do hear is very close and clear. The show was very competent, tho not as exciting as the frenzied Montreal show or as well recorded as Oakland. Definitely worth picking up, especially for you Animals freaks out there. -MARK Why Dogs and Shine On 1-5 were indexed on multiple tracks, I don't know. The recording has a little bit of tape hiss, but is comfortable to listen to. -MARK This new disk from pigs on the wing has the whole show (even though SOYCD 1-5 is not listed). The sound is excellent and problem from the master. Its sounds more realistic that the Oakland recording being less up front and less distorted with the keyboards captured much better (this may be due to the fact that the Oakland recording was taken right next to the speaker so only one channel was picked up. the only problem is that the lead guitar is sometimes a bit to the rear of the mix such as in the sheep solo or at the start of part 8 of SOYCD this is not that bad however and its never that far back in the mix. The sound is also an improvement on the version of this show released by the DFP being from a lower gen source. The show its self is excellent to being halfway between the frenzied last show of the tour and the polished Oakland show. On top of this many of the more improvised areas of the show vary more than every other recording I have heard with SOYCD 6-9 having some very strange wah wah guitar work on it. The packing also is of a high stand although the disks are CDRs they have printed backs rather than stickers and the artwork is also well done. All in all an excellent set and well worth picking up although if u really hate aud noise I would go for the Oakland show first. -GREEN MAN A very tasty item this. First lets deal with the bad bits. POTW need a proofreader. Dick Perry (sic) and Dave Gilmore (sic) make an appearance. Shine on pts 1-5 are not listed on the cover but appear on Disc one. Disc one has a clumsy edit at the end of Shine on. Dogs is indexed as 3 sections. In fact disc one has 12 index points most of which cause a little jump in the sound on my copy! Last track on disc two is probably the same concert but definately a different source. It's almost mono compared to the rest of the songs. There are also some annoying 'SKRTCH' sounds on both the encore songs. Now the good stuff. The sound is breathtaking and easily the best '77 show I have heard. A good test for sound quality on the '77 tour is what Nick Mason sounds like. Most of the time he sounds like someone playing biscuit tins in an abandoned warehouse. Here it sounds like he's on the same stage as the rest of the guys. The crowd is noisy (as usual for an american gig) but relatively quiet around the taper. One guy complained about the solos not being more up front. He should realise that the solos are being sent around the arena via the Azimuth Coordinator. The CD only has two channels so it sounds like its getting louder and softer. Overall I think the sound quality outways any misgivings about packaging and this is a must buy. -TUZZ

Notes: There is a reason why this is my favorite era of Floyd. There is also a reason why I consider Dave Gilmour to be the greatest guitar player of all time. Trade me for this one, and tell me if you don't agree on both counts. Absolutely rediculous!
