Notes: ?Trio of Doom?? Seems to me more like a heavenly threesome of outstanding talent!! How can you go wrong with any of these dudes?!! John McLaughlin (Electric Guitar) was a legendary British jazz guitarist who was an important figure in the early days of fusion, a time when that genre was full of experimentation and promise. Combining rock dynamics with jazz chops, he was an exciting player with an easy virtuosity and a lot of heart (he was involved in so many aspects of experimental music, from his work with Carlos Santana to his Indian Classic experiments with ?Shakti? (also on my list!). Jaco Pastorius (Electric Bass) was undoubtedly one of the greatest electric bass players ever. He transformed the role of the electric jazz bass, turning what had been seen as a bastard son into an incredibly lyrical, expressive instrument. No one had ever played the bass with such ferocious speed, such lyrical note articulation or with such stunning passion and visceral creativity as Jaco. Tony Williams (Drums), though dying at just 51, could be a VERY loud drummer! He worked with such illustrious talents as Miles Davis, Herbie Hancock and Ron Carter, to mention but a few. The only problem with this show is that it is too short!! Just three tracks recorded March 2nd, 3rd, and 4th, 1979, taken from the out-of-print vinyl LP?s ?Havana Nights I, II, & III respectively (just think about the uniqueness of the dates and the music!! A real collector?s item!). This liberated boot frequently circulates with Mahavishnu Orchestra filler from Puerto Rico, April 3, 1972, and luckily that is included here. And as a bonus, the last track is from ?Weather Report?. The only complaint is that it is too short?but oh so sweet!! Wonderful! Thanks Ed!!
