Notes: From v.1 notes and comments 6/2/09: Disc 1: tuned, fixed tracking, reFLACed Disc 2: Joined original T1, T2, T3 Deleted original T4 T1-T5 were approx. 47 cents flat. They have been properly tuned, to the best of my ability. What was originally presented as D2T6 was approx. 150 cents sharp and has also been corrected; again - to the best of my ability. It is now 'Track 4'. What was originally presented as D2T7 was a more complete version of what was originally presented as T6, from an alternate source, and which was approximately 26 cents sharp. That has been corrected. (Note that during "Maiden Voyage", when the horns come in, they play the melody in the 'wrong' key. That threw me off for the longest time, but it was part of the arrangement with this band, made by the composer himself. Herbie plays the melody, or 'head' in the key in which he originally wrote/performed/recorded it, and the entire composition is now in the correct key.) A second edition of this, presented by 'anazgnos', contained a composite track with the original D2T6 as its basis, adding the missing part from the original D2T7 at the end. I prefer the complete track 203 in this edition now, despite the fact that, occasionally, there is more audible FM static. The static is in the other track as well, but it is simply more muted. There's more high frequency content and detail in this one here. December 2024 - Azimuth adjusted and wow & flutter reduced. Additional tuning tweaks. New flacs, checksums, etc. Updated text and comments. *Please note: The incomplete track '204 Maiden Voyage' has also been included here for the sake of archival completeness and to give the listener a chance to hear an alternate partial version of the same track, should one prefer it over the longer, more complete one. When burning Disc 2 or simply playing these tracks in a playlist, please insert a blank track 203a, newly created, named "3 seconds of silence" between Tracks 203 and 204, as the material in 204 is an incomplete duplicate of the material in 3 and it will make the track transition there less jarring. Yes, I know - I could have simply pasted it to the end of the longer track 203, but then someone else in the future might edit it out thinking it was a mistake when a copy of this is later traded after being ripped from a burn, thereby defeating the purpose of the complete archive. (This extra track needn't be exclusive here either, necessarily. Feel free to use it anytime you need 3 seconds of silence anywhere... ) Thanks to everyone involved in the creation of this (hopefully) definitive edition of this set! This incredible unit was unfortunately short lived and under-recorded. Please purchase their official releases - they're absolutely incredible and excellent recordings as well. I recently read the excellent "You'll Know When You Get There: Herbie Hancock and the Mwandishi Band", written by Bob Gluck. For a deep dive into Herbie's music leading up to and during this period, it's highly recommended! I read it while listening to the releases being analysed and described in detail. Those are records I know very well and also still find essential in connecting where this creative branch of the music was going in the 70s by these intuitive master musicians. Every show was unique. That makes them all special. This is just one of the limited number of them we're fortunate enough to hear...
