| Notes: | Though I didn't see it, this is my favorite show on the Work Tour and was a cherished cassette for many many years, though I only just found it in my storage unit after a long disappearance. A taper named David traded me this first generation copy (his last name is long forgotten; he also swapped me a U2 '87 first gen. and a Gregson & Collister tape). I'm told this show has long been around in mediocre quality, but that's not the case here. This sounds terrific, and the performance is blazing throughout, though there is no doubt as to the set's pinnacle moment: the spot-on cover of Lou Gramm's then "hit" "Midnight Blue." If R.E.M. has ever made a more inspired cover choice (and I include "We Don't Need Another Hero" from Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome on the short list), I don't know what it is. I absolutely love how they play "Midnight Blue" (sample provided). If you care at all about this era of R.E.M., I strongly encourage you to grab this one. BK for JEMS | |||||
