SHOWID 274294

Set I

Guitar Shorty
Waterfront Blues Festival
Tom McCall Waterfront Park
Portland, OR.
July 4, 2005

Recorded from KBOO FM, a local all volunteer radio station. There is some inherent reception problems scattered throughout these recordings. The station is not very powerful and the team had some problems on the first day of the festival getting everything "plugged in". All in all some great music with a few tolerable "blurps".

Guitar Shorty
Guitar Shorty's blazing guitar and incredible stage antics influenced the likes of Jimi Hendrix (his nephew by marriage) and Buddy Guy. His wild stage shows?a display of backflips, headstands, windmills and breakdancing while never missing a guitar lick?have earned him a growing reputation as "wildest blues guitar showman." A favorite of Rose City blues fans, Shorty makes his first Waterfront appearance in eight years.

Born in Houston, Texas, raised in Kissimee, Fla., Shorty hit the road when he was just 17 as guitarist in Ray Charles' band. Over the years Shorty has performed with such blues and R&B luminaries as Sam Cooke, B.B. King, Guitar Slim and T-Bone Walker. Although he had recorded a handful of singles for a variety of labels (beginning in 1957 with a Willie Dixon-produced single on the Cobra label), it wasn't until the 1990s that the world discovered one of the blues' best kept secrets. His five albums since then, including his recent Alligator Records debut, Watch Your Back, have received massive critical acclaim. And his legendary live performances have kept him constantly in demand all over the world.
