Alice Coltrane: keyboard, harp, tamboura
Frank Lowe: Tenor Sax, Soprano Sax
Leroy Jenkisn: violin
Reggie Workman: Bass
Ben Riley: drums
Elayne Jones: Timpani
String Orchestra
Recorded at the Record Plant, NYC on Nov. 15-16, 1971
Alice's religious ruminations on her own and John Coltrane's work go straight out to a string-backed stratosphere. Here Alice touches on Yoruba religion (Olodumare is the Yoruba/Lucumi God) and Hindu theology. Her cover of her late husband's masterwork "A Love Supreme" opens with an invocation by her guru, Swami Satchidananda, explicating the forms of love; it moves from sweeping strings to funky back-beat and organ.
