Notes: Notes: This is an excellent audience recording from Red Rocks that I just transferred for the first time. The ambience is great - punchy, not distorted with a soft echo which is what it sounded like at the show. The sound was better than for Burning Spear who played before. Nice mix overall. It captures the sound of the distinct Red Rocks vibe well. This is very enjoyable for an audience tape and worth checking out if you like Jimmy Cliff. The only serious problem on the tape is the truncated version of Harder They Come at the end. OUCH! Sorry about that - not sure how it happened - who could let such a thing happen??? Normally I wouldn't seed something with this problem but I really doubt there are other copies of this in circulation and I think most people will appreciate it just the same. Red Rocks is a difficult place to record. You have to be somewhat commando to sneak in all your gear and do battle with rambunctious concert goers who have been drinking and partying all day, so you need a little help too if you want to walk out of there with a good tape. We made this tape with about 6 people in defensive formation around the taper and the equipment, protecting from those in the crowd who have the propensity to walk on tape decks, spill drinks, shriek, whistle, and fall on things. It was all worth it. It was a beautiful summer day at Red Rocks and Burning Spear followed a pretty good show by David Lindley and El Rayo-X and preceded this excellent show by Jimmy Cliff and Oneness. This is a great energy-loaded performance by Jimmy Cliff who lit up the place with his explosive rub-a-dub stylee. - Dub Irie 5/4/2006

Notes: Jammy and up steppin! I'm digging this! Excellent use of backup singers and a more fuller sound overall, getting away from that 70s dominating lead vocal style. This is how to perform a massive reggae show.
