Notes: Rickie Lee Jones on "Evening Becomes Eclectic" KCRW 89.9 FM Santa Monica, CA Wednesday, October 24, 1984 lineage: Sony 7030 receiver>Sony TC 158 SD>Maxell UDXL 60>JVC 5010 stand-alone burner>Fuji audio cd-r (60 minutes) The title of the show comes from an article in the L.A. Weekly prior to the program's air date, which tipped me off to this special broadcast. Here is the text of that article --- "She may not be the most compelling chanteuse of the late 20th century, this Rickie Lee Jones character. In any case, we have the Jones mystique to contend with: the bouts of misery and depression, the recovery, the new love affair, the new optimism, songs of intense suffering and beauty, the Deputy Dawg eyes blending with the little girl laugh. She's an enigma, as well as a singer. Great combination. now, she is doing a very Rickie Lee Jones type thing -- performing live, solo, with just the piano for company. You're not going to be able to keep her company either, because she's performing in the studio of radio station KCRW on "Evening Becomes Eclectic," hosted by Elizabeth Holt. But you can hear this broadcast Wednesday evening, and even tape it, although we all know that taping is ruining the recording industry." There is some FM static throughout this show, which is accentuated by the fact that there are moments of silence and very quiet passages. You can even hear the studio's air-conditioning humming, which Rickie Lee and the show's host, Elizabeth Holt discuss.
