Comment
The recording is an restored Victrola acoustic phonograph recording of George Gershwin and Paul Whiteman's band playing Rhapsody in Blue. Recorded and pressed in 1924, the same year it was composed, with Gershwin playing the piano. It's moderately shorter than the full composition, and some cuts were made to fit onto the two 78 rpm disks, but it's as close as you can get to hearing how the music was played when it was first performed. The later recordings using an electrical microphone were not until 1927, and not conducted by Whiteman.
