Notes: LINEAGE: AUD > Radioshack PZM Mics > Sony TCDD3 > DAT(0) (16bit, 32kHz Stereo, and 16bit 48kHz Stereo) > Sony SDT-9000 DDS Drive (audio patched firmware) > DAT2WAV 1.3b (digital extraction) > WAV > WAVELAB split > WAV > FLAC CREDITS: Yes, you read right, this is a master DAT... and more than that, its an uncirculated source! Massive credits to the original taper David Holmes the foresight of taping this way back in 1994, and for being generous enough to share it with us. New Buckley sources are so few and far between these days, so we salute you David - it is truly a gift ... Additional thanks must also go to joenirvana sourcing this, and for wanting this torrented! great work dude! THE SOURCE: I have done absolutely no DSP on this, to keep it in its pristine, unadulterated glory. That said, it is not without its peculiarities. The show was recorded at 2 parts, with different sample rates, on the same DAT, (and neither were 44kHz). The initial set was recorded at 16bit, 32kHz, Stereo, while the encore was recorded at 16bit, 48khz, Stereo. This made extraction very interesting. Call me a puritan, but as they were recorded like this, i'm leaving them intact. if you wanna resample onto an audio cd, do it to your own copy. :) THE TRANSFER (for all you audio nerds): As SPDIF is the 'consumer' subset of the AES/EBU digital standards, it can technically handle 32khz transfers, but most audio cards cant handle anything below 44kHz clocking. This discounted the normal scenario of DAT machine > SPDIF > PC. After some research, the cheapest solution was to buy a SCSI card, DDS drive (Sony SDT-9000), and patch the firmware to be audio capable. (if anyone needs help on how to do this in XP, msg me :) The first transfer failed horribly as it sounded like the last 10 minutes was badly damaged... it turns out this was just the tape drive reading the higher 48kHz as 32kHz... so i'm happy to say that this as complete (and bit perfect) as this source will ever be! THE SHOW: Jeff is in typically playful form for this gig, from mucking around waiting for the soundies to fix the PA, to the encore - in which he lampoons the pink panther theme before seg'ing into a less than serious take of Kangaroo. While the equipment was less than perfect, Jeff is at his masterful best, with his band following suit. I hope you enjoy this as much as i did transferring it! Once again all thanks go to David Holmes for taping and sharing this source!
