| Notes: | The Dead Weather 2009-11-17 Music Hall of Williamsburg, Brooklyn, NY An ACIDJACK master recording Equipment: Audix 1280c capsules>Church Audio Active Cables>SPSB-10>R-09HR (24/48) Position: FOB, DFC, about 15' from stage Mastering: WAV>Audacity (set fades, downsample, tracking, smooth peaks, amplify each channel)>FLAC (level 8) MHOW is a 550 capacity venue. In other words, about 1/3-1/4 the size of the type of place this band can easily fill. This show was announced last-minute and promoted mostly through the fan club. Those who managed to get tickets were rewarded with very up close and personal access to Allison steaming up the stage while Jack and the boys unleashed this band's patented style of blues-rock. Several new songs were played, including one that I wasn't familiar with that I'm calling "I Hate You" that featured a semi-scripted domestic violence-style battle between Jack and Allison. At one point, Jack accidentally (I think) shoved her to the ground and into her monitors! I doubt that I will ever get to see this band this up close again, which I regret. This is no simple Jack White side project. This band is a potential juggernaut. I recorded this show standing next to another taper (his gear is similar quality to mine, but he doesn't post his stuff) about 15' from the stage. My new Audix micas captured the events perfectly. I moved behind the other taper to avoid a guy who was gesturing and occasionally singing along a little too enthusiastically. Luckily, that guy is almost completely absent from the recording except for the chorus of "so far from your weapon" where you can tell he's there, but it's not bad. This recording is, I think, superior to my recording this July from Terminal 5, owing in no small part to the much, much better sounding and smaller venue and even more optimum position. Samples included for your listening pleasure. Check out my other recent DIME postings. Enjoy!
