Ray Davies, lead singer and creative force behind The Kinks,is a musical legend. Lauded by Blur, Kaiser Chiefs, Paul Weller and, frankly, anyone with an ear and a brain, the great man reveals the secrets behind the songs to Sky Arts. Ray, who was, made a CBE for services to music in 2004, chats to Will Hodgkinson about his early days as a choirboy in North London, his musical heritage and how he and brother Dave began by bashing out tunes on a broken amp in their living room. The man behind All Day And All Of The Night, credited as the song that began heavy metal, gives a fascinating insight into his creative process and the hedonistic days of the '60s when The Kinks were banned in America for being, well, a bit saucy.
