| Notes: | * 1 of 2 sources pulled. * Drove ~5 hours from my house on Monday arriving in Chicago @ The Vic about 2:30 local time. Managed to nab a spot on the street directly next to the venue (which was what I planned) and waited. Part of it was getting to Chicago w/tons of time to spare as I was meeting an old friend for dinner at Matilda's down the corner from The Vic. That and weather; you never can be too sure. Being an optimisticpessimist I decided to grab the 3 albums on vinyl (and a sharpie) before I left - just in case. Thought about grabbing a couple of the 7"s but figured if I was lucky to get anything signed the albums are a bit more appropriate. About 3pm I saw Chris & his girlfriend walking towards the venue; grabbed my lps & jumped out of my truck to request a signature as to which he said "sure of course" & signed them. Few minutes later Ed was walking towards the venue; got out of my truck with the lp's & asked if he would sign which he seemed happy to. He said something to the effect of 'if the other boys are inside I'll see if they can come out for a minute so you aren't standing outside all day'. Shook his hand, he went inside. I stand there for a minute, go back into my truck as it was a chilly day. To my amazement, I don't know maybe 8-10 minutes later Russell & Tom walk out. Got out of my 4Runner & walked over; they signed my vinyl's, I said how much I was looking forward to the show, longtime fan, dig the new album & I was actually able to say to Tom Smith that I "sincerely appreciate your music, I find it as interesting as it is inspiring & very uplifiting" - I believe he said something to the effect of 'thanks, that's cool'. Now, I've seen thousand+ concerts in my day & never, ever, ever has a band done anything like that (in my experience), for a fan. That is just unheard of. When I told my wife she was like "wow, what cool guys". Which they are. Proof of that, above. Those little things that bands do - man - so rare. So rare is a band of the Editors caliber. Artistically & obviously as people. Just as people, as artists. The songs are complex, musically w/all parts engaging in one another but also so pure & honest. And, live, they are just amazing. This is a band that has a very long career ahead of them. | |||||
