Michael Chapman - guitars, vocals
Mick Ronson - electric lead guitar
Johnny Van Derek - violin
Rick Kemp - bass
Laurie Allen - drums
Alex Atterson - piano
? - female background vocals (track 5).
Very, very cool show, a 1/2 hour live in studio concert with no audience in attendance. Michael talks a bit about each song before he starts playing. This broadcast must have been the premier promotional push for the newly recorded "Window" album, as ALL the material Michael chose to play was from it. Kinda ballsy! Mick Ronson had played a lot of lead guitar on "Fully Qualified Survivor", Michael's 2nd Harvest album earlier in 1970, but then Ronson did NOT appear on the "Window" studio sessions. But here he is again & knows the material, so likely he was gigging with Michael on & off that year when other things didn't get in the way. One thing I always love about Ronson's playing is ability to hold back until the right moment & then cut loose in a completely fitting but heavy way so everyone notices. In "Last Lady Song" he waits until 2&1/2 minutes in & then rebuilds the song. Chapman is in super form here & the instrumentation is unique, not just with Ronson on this material, but also due to the killer band line-up featuring the great Laurie Allen & the unusual addition of the violinist. This is a keeper.
