They had beaten the odds and won the "Choose The Cover" competition and were featured on the August 18, 2011 cover of Rolling Stone magazine. They were signed by Atlantic and were getting a lot of buzz. I wasn't overly familiar with their music but from what I had heard about them, they were right up my alley and boy was I right. I was lucky enough to snag a ride to nearby Penticton (thanks Laner) and arrived early enough to get a good look around the small venue to find the sweet spot. In the end, I decided that I'd never get a better spot than directly in front of the right stacks. If I had gone with a center capture, I would have either been too close to get anything from the PA or if I backed off, I would have had a lot of people between me and the stacks. As I was forced to use omnis to record this (with ALL my other mics were in the shop for repairs) having too many people between me and the stacks would not have been a good idea. It turned out that I really did pick the best spot in the house for a recording and luckily, managed a good one for your enjoyment. The Sheepdogs were really fantastic! Two guitars playing off each other, a solid bass player, great audience interaction, a quirky drummer who plays barefoot and with his sticks backwards, quality harmonies, strong song writing and a rock 'n roll attitude! What more can you ask for? To me, they seemed like a heavier modern-day version of The Guess Who. They not only lived up to the hype but surpassed it. After a great show, in which the house provided them with bottles of Perrier water filled with beer (maybe some strange law not allowing drinking on stage during a performance?) the band came out for a meet & greet and were truly happy to spend some time with their fans. You can be sure that if they're ever around again, I'll be going to see them and you should too! ********************************************** Fight the Loudness War! http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Loudness_war No compression was used in the post-processing of this recording to preserve it's dynamic range, listenability and authenticity. This recording will naturally sound much better cranked up loud with quality headphones!
