Notes: Yojimbo's Original notes from Nov 2005: _____________ From FZShows: 27-Nov 1974, St Paul Auditorium, St Paul, MN 125 min, SBD, A/A- Tush Tush Tush, Stinkfoot (q: Whipping Post), RDNZL, Village Of The Sun, Echidna's Arf, Don't You Ever Wash That Thing?, Penguin In Bondage, T'Mershi Duween, Dog Meat, Building A Girl, Dinah-Moe Humm, Camarillo Brillo, Montana, improvisations, Oh No, Son Of Orange County, More Trouble Every Day (q: Rikki Don't Lose That Number [Steely Dan]) Lineage: Master clone CDR -> EAC -> SoundForge (some re-tracking) -> FLAC Frontend This is yet another master clone of the famous Dick Barber tapes - for the full story and more lineage info, check one of bburnett's seeds from this series. Levels are very high in places, and some clipped peaks affect the sound. Other than that, this is one of the better sounding DB tapes, from a very dynamite show. _____________ Notes on fixes: _____________ Took this and repaired the evil, unexplainable digital crap in Penguin & Duween. Hope I got them all. There were also micro-gaps around many of the track splits. Got rid of those too. Looks like tape 2 begins with Camarillo, and that's the one that had the hot transfer where the levels clipped a bit. I brought all that down about 80% to match the levels of the rest of the show. Not much we can do with about the clipping. After that, the whole thing went to flambay for a speed-check, and the last 4 tracks were speed-corrected to make up for cassette tape stretch... 1974 11 27 SBD 13 improvisations 31:37 1974 11 27 SBD 14 Oh No 01:28 1974 11 27 SBD 15 Son Of Orange County 05:09 1974 11 27 SBD 16 More Trouble Every Day 05:59 speed correction: 13 improvisation: - {0:00-7:00} (G.Duke & FZ intro): 0 to -15cts pitch bend - {7:00-31:14} (from G.Duke funky stuff onwards): -15cts to -30cts pitch bend tracks 14-15-16: -30cts _____________________ _____________________ What it is is now: 27-Nov 1974, St Paul Auditorium, St Paul, MN 124:22 min, SBD, A/A- Master Clone CDR -> EAC -> SoundForge (some re-tracking) -> FLAC Frontend -> WAV -> Soundforge 5 (speed correction) -> FLAC Frontend level 7 -> Aiff -> Sound Studio (gap removal, interpolate filter for fixes & more re-tracking) -> xACT (SBE align & Flac level 5) That's not the EXACT lineage, since flambay only worked on the last 4 tracks, but it is damn close. This isn't the final for this date, but I think the final for this rip. jaypfunk will eventually get time to get to his 3rd gen Cassette, and I think that will be better, but may also need to go through the same speed-CXing that this one did. So for now, this is it. I couldn't find the tape flip anywhere, but there a few sort of obvious patches and a few drop outs from damaged tape. Nothing to really complain about. I'm sure you will find them if you look. Possibly there were 2 reels running, so there could be overlap during the reel change? I did remove a few seconds of overlap around the disc change so there are no repeats. If you want to burn to discs, there's a music break between Dog Meat & Dinah-Moe, so split there. If you are all kinds of Perfectionist about your discs, there are some short fade tracks labeled "AS END OF DISC" & "AS BEGINNING OF DISC" tracks in the Extras Folder Final time on this is 124:22 Disc One (55:34) 1974 11 27 SBD 01 Tush Tush Tush 03:28 1974 11 27 SBD 02 Stinkfoot 06:51 1974 11 27 SBD 03 RDNZL 11:59 1974 11 27 SBD 04 Village Of The Sun 05:11 1974 11 27 SBD 05 Echidna's Arf (Of You) 03:19 1974 11 27 SBD 06 Don't You Ever Wash That Thing 06:03 1974 11 27 SBD 07 Penguin In Bondage 08:16 1974 11 27 SBD 08 T'Mershi Duween 04:05 1974 11 27 SBD 09 Dog Meat 06:05 1974 11 27 SBD 10 AS END OF DISC 00:13 Disc Two (69:11) 1974 11 27 SBD 09 AS BEGINNING OF DISC 00:09 1974 11 27 SBD 10 Dinah-Moe Humm 08:41 1974 11 27 SBD 11 Camarillo Brillo 04:19 1974 11 27 SBD 12 Montana 11:45 1974 11 27 SBD 13 improvisations 31:37 1974 11 27 SBD 14 Oh No 01:28 1974 11 27 SBD 15 Son Of Orange County 05:08 1974 11 27 SBD 16 More Trouble Every Day 06:01 the Mothers of Invention tonight: _____________________ Frank Zappa - guitar, vocals Ruth Underwood - percussion Napoleon Murphy Brock - tenor saxomophone, lead vocals Chester Thompson - drums James "Bird Legs" Youman - bass George Duke - keyboards, vocals ___________________________________ fingerprints: 1974 11 27 SBD 01 Tush Tush Tush.flac:17f9f88b63bc1cc9d67e1b784bba7fca 1974 11 27 SBD 02 Stinkfoot.flac:b052698114e91b7a3186d7d9b412080d 1974 11 27 SBD 03 RDNZL.flac:89412be3036620cca3f97ef91418ff9b 1974 11 27 SBD 04 Village Of The Sun.flac:d99ac156971983a034fee58a31d47cb7 1974 11 27 SBD 05 Echidna's Arf (Of You).flac:fbde81f4bc639f8370e8cae1aaabf431 1974 11 27 SBD 06 Don't You Ever Wash That Thing.flac:3563b9b82a5cc91f6a14d77cb7b472c3 1974 11 27 SBD 07 Penguin In Bondage.flac:75230166c6d54d0889406e5d27c902e9 1974 11 27 SBD 08 T'Mershi Duween.flac:3365651b23aea2b523b9309463d4cee8 1974 11 27 SBD 09 Dog Meat.flac:9bf566d51bcb2606cdc3f8e22ba4d341 1974 11 27 SBD 10 Dinah-Moe Humm.flac:cc213ebbca5096d568e19f8835d4cbca 1974 11 27 SBD 11 Camarillo Brillo.flac:2d4bfce5047caac0a3d930ee39240539 1974 11 27 SBD 12 Montana.flac:c86df17283025cc0bbef535e9c527373 1974 11 27 SBD 13 improvisations.flac:a62f52f85bf8446baaeb214fe1126bfa 1974 11 27 SBD 14 Oh No.flac:5807a5fb13a096fe08275414389a9fe2 1974 11 27 SBD 15 Son Of Orange County.flac:6c36b5d766db661faed09a53ddc22763 1974 11 27 SBD 16 More Trouble Every Day.flac:4285710d3cbdc24cc23fe532bb9c38a6 1974 11 27 SBD 09 AS BEGINNING OF DISC.flac:f85123946e6a78b93424f8d88d962913 1974 11 27 SBD 10 AS END OF DISC.flac:b4a06064acfb894978c7f1d24ed7bdc5 enjoy!
