| Notes: | Pro > ? > CD-R(x) > EAC > wav > TLH level 8 sectors aligned In the early 2000s, I copied this CD-R from someone in Vegas who either got it directly from Carl Fontana, or from a friend of Carl's. It was described to me as an unreleased album. In August 2020 I was able to contact a member of the backing band, who told me this was recorded by the late DJ Ross Gentile and had never been intended for release. I have not been able to pin down the exact date. The CD-R notes list a date of July 23, 2001, but I found an interview with Bill Watrous dated June 13, 2001 in a book called 'Bonanza: Insights and Wisdom from Professional Jazz Trombonists' by Julie Gendrich. Watrous refers to having recorded with Fontana at Generations the prior week, which would put it in early June. The PDF of the interview is included here. The July date may be the editing/mastering date. Fontana died October 9, 2003 from Alzheimers, and this is one of the last recordings of him before he lost the ability to play. | |||||
