Comment
Shahid Parvez Khan: sitar
Lalgudi GJR Krishnan: violin
Subhajyoti Guha: tabla
Patri Sathish Kumar: mridangam
Ustad Shahid Parvez Khan is universally hailed as one of the very best living sitarists in the world. When people say he is a living legend, they mean it. Lalgudi Krishnan is one of the leading violinists in south India.
Jugalbandi is a type of musical form in Indian Classical Music where there are two soloists playing the same raga. If they are of different traditions, as here -- Parvez Khan is Hindustani [North Indian] and Krishnan is Carnatic [South Indian] -- they will have their own percussion players as well.
In this Jugalbandi, look out for the extended percussion battle starting near the 2/3 mark, where the performers participate in a friendly call-and-response challenge to try to outdo the other.
