Lynyrd Skynyrd ??/??/1987

SHOWID 728333

Set I

This entry is to recall and to record History. I know this was a 1987 show because the 1987 Lynyrd Skynyrd "LEGEND" album had been released. This was before the Tribute in 1987 came together. In attendance at this show was Barry Lee Harwood of the Rossington Collins Band and the Allen Collins Band. Billy Powell was also there at this show. And finally, last but not least Jimmy Dougherty the singer for the Allen Collins Band was there. I remember seeing Billy Powell. Barry Lee Harwood looked super cool with his long hair. Jimmy Dougherty was wearing a white T-Shirt and it had a black Permanent Marker Message on it. It read: ONE WAY, and I think it had an arrow pointing up, something like that. Jimmy was referring to Jesus Christ being the one way to spiritual salvation. If you DOUBT my eye witness account then remember Billy Powell had been playing with the local Christian band VISION. Also, Barry Lee Harwood had devoted his life to Jesus Christ somewhere along the line. I think Barry said this is why he didn't join the Lynyrd Skynyrd band because he had been asked to. And, I think Jimmy Dougherty even had a street sign shirt that he wore on a publicity photo for the Allen Collins Band. That shirt had the ONE WAY ARROW on it. Maybe that shirt got trashed and Jimmy still wanted to put the ONE WAY message out, so he marked up a T-Shirt. B. T. Bones Steakhouse probably came and went pretty fast. It was on Philips Highway and Emerson Street at the mall. In that spot in the 70's was a movie theater. Later was the steakhouse. The mall closed up forever and the last thing I can verify is that a YMCA was there. I drove a group to that YMCA and they had a fake wall for rock climbing. Anyway, this was a REAL GIG and it was pretty good. It RUNG my bell. It was a REAL pre-Skynyrd jam. Yeah, Allen was in a wheelchair by that point. Gary and Dale and their kids were in Colorado. Billy sorely needed a band and touring money. Billy must have been pretty broke at the time. Poor Jimmy and Barry sort of played their last respects to Skynyrd, RCB and ACB. Sorry but I was starstruck at the time. I was really satisfied to see these real people IN THE FLESH. I'm letting people know this show HAPPENED. Lots of other people KNOW it happened but it probably hasn't been registered for HISTORY. So, yeah, something VERY COOL happened back in 1987 that has been mostly forgotten.
