Notes: Before this concert, I'll be the first to admit that I never gave Squid the attention they deserve. I love other windmill acts, (BcNR, black midi, Jerkin Fendrix), but for some reason I just never checked them out. So when I saw that A) they were coming to Pittsburgh (a city that feels like a rigged coin flip whether a big name band comes to town) and B) the tickets were only $25, it seemed like the perfect time to hear the band. ...and now I fell like an idiot for not listening to them sooner. I played the trumpet for 9 years in school, so when I saw someone pull out a cornet, I knew this was going to be a treat. The poster behind them, "An Anxiety Dream", could not be a better description. Tense, almost jittery, rhythms that eventually dissolve in a wash of euphoria. As for the recording, this was my first time using a non-phone mic, and I think it turned out pretty well. Microphone was clipped to cargo pants pocket. There is the occasional bit where the mic bumps around, but I think the music covered it up very well. While recording, had to reduce gain during the final track to prevent clipping. I tried to even out the volume in Audacity, but it isn't perfect.
