Comment

James Taylor played three separate shows on 2/7/70. The "Live in Syracuse, Vol. 1" bootleg labels this as the early and late sets, though http://www.solorb.com/dat-heads/digests/V4.400/D441 seems to imply that the early set does not circulate due to recording problems. Therefore, this is labeled as the middle and late sets.

It did not appear as though this particular show had been upped on Dime previously so here you go. I noticed that eburks put up both sets of the 2/6/70 show last year. I have that show as well. The sound on this is great, even for 1970. Unfortunately "Anywhere Like Heaven" is cut. There are only a few seconds of the song included here. That is how I received it. Also, the tracks don't completely line up with the artwork, but they are all present. Enjoy.

Sweet Baby James This early JT show (recorded the same week as "Sweet Baby James" hit the stores (and just before James’ career took off) should be heard by everyone who has ever remotely liked James Taylor -- it's warm, it's inviting, it's personal and it's magnificent! (yeah, I REALLY like it -- you will, too!) So put a log on the fire, pour yourself a glass of wine, dim the lights, put your feet up, close your eyes and drift away with James to February, 1970 . . . and soak in the magic. Notes on this version: I began this remastering project after receiving a copy of this outstanding show in a trade a number of years ago. Unfortunately, the copy I received, though of extremely high quality, contained a few glitches and one incomplete song, “Anywhere Like Heaven” at the end of disc three, which cut off after about 50 seconds. Little did I realize that my quest for a complete copy of this show would take me nearly 20 additional trades and hours of editing to complete. But here for all of you to enjoy, are the fruits of my efforts. During my search I encountered several different versions of these shows in varying quality. All the tracks on this version are from the highest quality copies I received. The last track on disc three, “Anywhere Like Heaven” is of slightly lower quality than the other tracks (probably 1 or 2 generations removed), but may not be noticeable to many listeners. For some reason, this track was hard to locate as it does not appear on most versions. My best guess is that it became corrupted during an early seed of the show and most versions were circulated without it. I am new to torrents, so please forgive any errors on my part and please feel free to help me out with tips and suggestions. I normally maintain all music files in my collection as WAV files with cue sheets to delineate tracks. Apparently, torrents are upped as separate tracks without a cue sheet. Presumably, they can be reassembled into a single WAV file after downloading the torrent, but I am unclear how to do that and still obtain a cue sheet. Please feel free to educate me on that subject. I have maintained the sets on 4 separate files/discs so each set will be complete in and of itself – as it was originally performed. Again, because I am new to torrents I will up each set separately, with the others to follow shortly after I know the first one has gone smoothly. All digital editing was performed in a program called Dart XP Pro and you may notice that the levels seem a bit low, but I left them that way deliberately to maintain the full dynamics of the original recordings as I received them. I do not recall doing any equalization on these sets nor did I apply any noise reduction. I split the WAV file using the “split WAV by cue sheet” function in EAC. Given that it is EAC, I would imagine that was done cleanly and properly. If I have omitted any other required information, please let me know and I will append it to the torrents for the remaining sets. This is one of my all-time favorite shows. It captures James just as “Sweet Baby James” was about to be released and before his name became known to millions. I hope you enjoy these sets as much as I do. CDTraderJohn November 2009 I found this posting at TapeCity explaining the origin of these recordings: Subject: re: james taylor 1970 shows Date: Sat, 29 Aug 98 17:51:19 -0400 I guess I'm the one to clarify the question about the dates of the James Taylor shows. I was concert coordinator at S.U. during the early 70s, and music director of WAER, the S.U. college station. James was at Jabberwocky, a 200 seat basement club on the Syracuse University campus, for three nights in Feb 1970. On Thursday night, 2/5, he did two sets. Friday 2/6 and Saturday 2/7 were three-set nights each. I taped all eight sets on my reel-to-reel via a soundboard patch, with James' permission. One set was broadcast live on WAER. Of the eight masters, I only retained four. The sound company was still getting up to speed on Thursday and the first set of each weekend night also had levels all over the place and mike stands thumping on stage when James tapped his foot. Plus, there was a lotta duplication. So that's the story. Regards, Jeff Chard =======================================================
