| Notes: | The first and second set came from two seperate traders in trades over a year apart. Set I: FM. Only a couple of minor flaws. Cool Edit Pro to remove hiss (very lightly). Set II: This is an FM from ??? to DAT to CDR. There's some FM static/noise/dropouts. I've run Cool Edit Pro to help remove some of the noise. It was done on a light setting so as not to ruin any music. This is not a perfect recording, It is the only live recording that I've found with this trio. Hellborg smokes. | |||||

| Notes: | John McLaughlin- guitar Jonas Hellborg- bass Trilok Gurtu- drums and percussion Hart Plaza Detroit, Michigan, U.S.A. September 3, 1988 performance quality: A- recording quality: A source: master FM broadcast tape lineage: WGBH FM radio > Yamaha RX-500U reciever > Naka. BX- 100 cassette deck (dolby off) > Maxell XLII-S cassette > played on Naka. 125 into soundforge 4.5 (to WAV) > FLAC 6 > torrent. setlist: 1: florianapolis 2: are you the one? 3: mother tongues 4: ? comments: this show has been upped twice recently on dime already, so why a third time? Well, this one comes from an edited WGBH broadcast of what may include the 1st 2 songs of the show. One upload, from Ricola, seems to be the second part of the concert. There was another longer version of lesser quality (some FM interference) that is missing a chunk of the beginning also. This one only runs about 52 minutes, and is the complete edited version broadcast on WGBH several months (maybe a few years?) after the concert. Tracks 1 and 2 seem to be complete and unedited from start to end, and so too tracks 3 and 4, but there seems to be an edit between tracks 2 and 3 in the broadcast. It opens with John saying thanks for waiting and commenting about the rain. I did not hear that in either of the previous uploads of this show. MAYBE now we have it all. There may be one or two flaws in this recording, but it's basically a clean recording and all four of these tracks are not interrupted. I have some other McLaughlin uploads to offer which are on the way soon but this is my only FM master of McLaughlin (except for 1 song by Shakti) and it is a good show. I do NOT know if Florianapolis is the 1st song of this concert, but I am fairly familiar with Mclaughlin shows of this era and that would be a believable opening song. John does not play exactly the same set each night on a tour with this trio, but not much variation of setlist, more so in a longer set. A typical set of this trio is about 90-100 minutes. This may be 2 shows. the length seems quite long for just a 1 show situation with this band, but none of these 3 posts have mention of any "second set" that I heard. The songs in here are among the best in this nice long show (s?). I'm not sure, but I think between this and the Ricola post, it is most or maybe even all of this concert, both being in better sound quality than the longer version with FM static. (not terrible but noticable in that other longer one). I think it's worth the upgrade, although it's hardly perfect piecing together, it is an upgrade, this winds up being a glasnostrd19/ricola collaberation production (if that's OK with Ricola that is) to get this show at least completER than before, if not completely complete, and partly in a better quality at least part of the show not included in the Ricola version. Enjoy, John season is just around the corner.............................................................................. Do not sell this recording. Trade freely and losslessly. [2008-03-24]Not very interesting - too much percussian focus - definitely has that FM-ish sound quality. | |||||
