On the Bus in America:
Acid Tests, The Merry Pranksters, and the Grateful Dead
(English, simultaneous translation Eng/Ger)
In 1965, a group of young writers and artists began a series of parties and happenings to explore the new regions of mind accessed with LSD. Named The Merry Pranksters, they created a new type of gathering where boundaries between audience and performers disappeared and all participated in a new consciousness. On the brilliantly painted bus "Furthur", they traveled across North America and Mexico, surprising all who encountered them. Their "Acid Tests" were transformational, leading to psychedelic revolution in the US. Evolving music of Grateful Dead from Acid Tests to today illuminates cultural change in music with 40 years of joyous innovation.
