Taper notes:
This is BARN14, the 14th in my ongoing series of restoring my DAT master recordings to a more "usable" format. I've been tending to focus on shows that I recorded which are not in common circulation or not in circulation at all, as I think it's more important to get uncirculated shows out there than to get more versions of the same shows out there (unless there is a HUGE quality improvement. Well, this show doesn't fit either of those requirements -- it's very commonly available (in fact it was officially released by the band) AND it probably doesn't sound a whole lot different than any other circulating audience recording out there (though it does sound REALLY good), but in my mental preparations for Phish's Festival 8 (taking place on and around 10/31/09), I really wanted to hear the last Phish Halloween show I'd been to again, so I broke out my DAT masters and promptly transferred set 1 & 2. Fast forward 2 months to Christmas weekend, I realized I still hadn't done the 3rd set yet, so I dug out the 2nd tape of this show and finished it off. Really fun show, especially the 2nd set if you're any sort of Velvet Underground fan, or the 3rd set if you're a fan of the Phish open/ambient jamming style that they were into in 1998.
