Taper notes:
Inspired by my pending trip to the Berkeley Greek Theatre for Phish's shows next week, I pulled out this recording that I made at the other Greek Theatre, in Los Angeles in 1998. I had made the decision to fly out to the Halloween shows in Vegas, but as part of the trip, went to Los Angeles just before to visit my friend Geoff Tischman who was living in LA at the time, see Phish at the Greek Theater, and then drive together to Vegas. Good plan, good times for sure.

Of course, this particular show was far overshadowed by the Vegas Halloween show and even more so, the next show after Halloween on 11/2/98 in Utah, where they did "Dark Side Of The Moon" in its entirety. While the 1st set is nothing special (though McGrupp is always welcome) besides a mini-acoustic set where they played some new tunes, the second set is pretty spectacular -- with a smokin' "Possum", tasty "Moma Dance", a jaw-droppingly breathtaking "Reba", and the first performance of Joe Walsh's "Walk Away" since the uber-famous Bomb Factory show in 1994....topped off by the 1st ever performance of The Beatles' "Something".

On top of a great performance, this is just a killer recording. I was right in the sweet spot, set up pretty darn close to the stage. If I recall correctly, there were very few other tapers there that night.

Enjoy BARN58!

Scott
