I'm fairly confident that the acoustic set (msr>pcm>dat>cdr) is still encoded with pre-emphasis (which was used by all pcm recorders).

Using feurio, I manually set de-emphasis flags for each of the sbd-sourced tracks and compared this version to a normally-burned copy of this set. I found the de-emphasis version to be a fair amount fuller sounding and less bright with a more natural sounding high end.

I recommend that folks perform this test with any pcm-sourced recording (i.e. the oade and sean webber-small sourced dead pcm auds) that has not been through a subsequent analog (or d>a>d like many of the dead betty board tapes) generation and report their results.

I do NOT think that applying digital equalization to remove the emphasis curve (or an extra d>a>d generation) is the proper "solution" to this issue.

Aren't the right and left channels revered on the acoustic set?! Shouldn't Brent be coming out of my right speaker? Was there any time when he was not on the right of the stage? Anyone that knows for sure please reply. My Dead days started in '85. Thanks. Mike

Here are some pictures of RCMH during this run. Others aren't hard to locate. Looks like Brent is on the right.
