At one time in the 1990's, Winnipeg's Crash Test Dummies were at the top of the heap in the pop music world. With such hits as "Mmm Mmm Mmm," "Superman's Song" and "The Ghosts That Haunt Me" they performed around the world. They were nominated for a Grammy and went on to win a Juno.
When the group stopped working, the various members went in different directions. Brad Roberts, the leader and songwriter of the band and the man with the baritone voice moved to New York City. Over the last few years he continued to write and by 2009 he was ready to record a new album. It came out in 2010 as "Oooh La La" and Roberts wanted to get back on the road. He decided that the touring band would consist of only three people, Brad, original member Ellen Reid, and a guitarist.
When they arrived in Winnipeg in October for their concert at the Burton Cummings Theatre, the show was like no other on the tour. It became a reunion, the first time in ten years that the old band, except original member Ben Darvill, appeared on the stage together. The hometown audience was warm and vocal in their support of the Dummies and the concert featured a combination of old favourites and a few of Brad's new songs.
