Taper's notes:
Smokestack opened.
background info...
new to the PCM-M1, only time taping at AAC that it was allowed.
A longtime friend, BT, won tix from radio station to this show & the seats were waaay back behind stage left. I'm not one to listen to either of the bands, but BT wanted a recording of the show & knew i taped. When searching for a setlist after the show, I found there were already two other sources online & the DAT never even got rewound.
As the artists enter/exit stage, it was by this section as is apparent from crowd.
I built a 7-pin cable to rip this. (GSAL > SPSB-3 > Sony PCM-M1 @ 24/48 > spdif > soundblaster audigy 2 > soundforge > TLH @ level 8 > you!)
The first track of Smokestack was recorded line-in & it didn't look like I had near enough levels so I switched to min-in (loud pop) between 1st & 2nd songs.
The mics were GSAL (Giant Squid Audio Lab) as there was an intermittant open on one channel (dropouts).

Conversion notes:
----------------
Received the wav file in Flac from Chris Urzi to review and convert. This source was never circulated but was submitted to db.etree.org on 5/24/12 (at the time I received the wav file), however the md5 listed is actually the entire wav file as one checksum, so this source will be the proper submitted source to db.etree.

First, I applied +1.50db to right channel to even the levels.  I used the Sound Forge Pencil Tool to fix any errors.  The location as mentioned by the taper was upper level behind the stage and most likely at head height so crowd chatter and clapping is present but mostly in between songs.  Considering the location, this source sounds pretty good. It just needed a bass boost due to the tinny sound of the Giant Squid mics and the Waves L3 was used to boost volume and vocals. There are a few songs like Where Are You Going and Pay For What You Get that sound a little faint compared to the others.  Since the taper fixed the input during the opener, this tape was very clean

Errors fixed:  Dropout or M1 recorder stopped then started at 1:32 of Intro track so a crossfade was applied. A static pop penciled out on left channel at 5:44 of Ants Marching
