June 9, 2015 Recollection:

This was a two show JGB run for us, catching the Alpine Valley show on September 15 and then Poplar Creek on the 16th.  At the time these were fairly big venues for the JGB, and if my memory serves me right the scene outside was pretty laid back at both venues.  Sneaking the recording gear into these shows took some creative stealth maneuvers, and taping was dicey.  At this Poplar Creek show we saw several tapers get nabbed. There was a guy right next to us hand-holding his big AKG microphones.  He could not have been less stealthy, and security quickly spotted him and escorted him away, completely oblivious to the fact that I was also recording the show.  The old hat trick was always useful to keep things on the down low.  Three security guys walked right down our row to nab the AKG guy, and they didn't even look at me.  I still get a kick out of that.  Mark and Martha employed the old misdirection and slight of hand maneuvers and stole their attention away from me, and we didn't miss a beat, save for a quick flip before Evangeline.  I always thought that this was a very good recording, and it is the first of many new 24/96 transfers that will be forthcoming over the next few months/years in the effort to breathe new life into these old master analog tapes.

We hope that you enjoy listening to this music as much as we enjoyed capturing it.  Long Live.

Greg Holtz
