Special thanks to Dan Debeer for helping out with a couple of track titles I was having trouble with!
Taper notes:
BARN186 & BARN187 represent my next dip into the music of Galactic -- last visited in the BARN series nearly *9* years ago in BARN65 way back in October 2010. Based upon some discussion about how good these shows were on the NYC Freaks music obsessive email list, I broke out the DATs of these shows, the 2nd and 3rd Galactic shows I saw (with 10/18/97 at the Knitting Factory being the first) and transferred and mastered them up for you.
These are not your average shows. This was a band absolutely at the top of their game, on a heavy touring schedule proving every night what they can do, mixing up the setlists, and throwing down the funk every single night. The 2nd night of this 2 night run (on 1/17) features a spectacular sit-in from the Wild Magnolias (dressed in their full Mardi Gras costumes and parading through the crowd), and the one and only Warren Haynes (of the Allman Brothers and Govt Mule) tearing it up on guitar. This is as good as it gets! In fact, these shows left a special impression on me as I had seen the Rolling Stones at MSG (for a lot of money -- I think around $150 which was pretty much the highest price ticket for any concert at the time) the night before and was quite disappointed. These shows proved to me for $15 I could have worlds more fun at shows at smaller clubs for a lot less money.
Enjoy!
