Thanks to Dubwise, for sharing his audience tape of the Jazz Is Dead 4-21-98 Cafe Tomo show, and to Saoshya, for remastering his material. After much debate here on dime about the correct lineage of this show, I had a feeling of deja vu. I lived in Arcata for a year (2001-2002), and was at the infamous Deep Banana Blackout show at Cafe Tomo the night when the Visitor Center/Environmental Center burned down. I left Arcata in 2002, and I was gifted with a few cassettes from a good friend. I checked all those dusty old cassettes that I haven't looked at in 7 years - sure enough, one is labeled "Jazz is Dead - Cafe Tomo 4-21-98 - 0 Gen SBD." This source cassette contained the full show, and part of the encore (Dark Star, but it cuts out). It is an honor and a priveledge to be able to recover a lost Arcata gem, and to be able to share it with the world, particularly the Arcata Dead Community. Much thanks to the original unknown taper of this Sound Board source, and I would like to dedicate this recovered nugget to my old Arcata crew, must of whom are still there. If you happen to see Josh, Nathan, Uncle Bob, Robin, or Becky who now lives in Berkeley, buy them a beer! Without them, I never would have been in Arcata, and who knows what would have happened to this show! Much love, and I hope to be in Northern California again someday!

This was transferred from a Maxell XLII "Position High" 90 minute cassette tape to a CD (wav files) via a TEAC RW-CD22 Recorder, which is a stereo component. The sound was not altered in any way. I had to track this by ear, and the tracking is off, I can tell you that for sure. Feel free to retrack this and share it with everyone! Oh, and if you see T. Lavitz, tell him to update his info - if you listen to the beginning someone mentions "Giving a Warm Humboldt Welcome" and before the encore someone in the band mentions "Arcata, CA, Thank You Very Very Much!" It's all good, we just need to keep everything straight!

peace, willie4prez
