Editor's Comments:
This source is the same material as the KZEW-FM radio broadcast version seeded via DIME (with appendix), but unedited.
Both versions had a large phase offset which completely buried the right channel and made the recording sound very muddy
and confused.
This was probably a 'live to air' broadcast made with a pair of microphones at the mixing desk and a portable stereo mixing console. The stereo mix changes on the fly. Numerous phase offsets were corrected and the gain changes were
smoothed out for this version.
In a previous version of this broadcast recording (seeded on DIME), two KZEW commercials advertising this concert were
appended, and I included one as an addendum; the portion referring to this concert is the same in both.
The missing opening segment of this concert has never truned up...
Prof. Goody verifed the speed.
plaz:
- corrected DC offset errors
- balanced channels and gain normalized
- global phase correction: Part A -0.46 msec, Part B -0.52 msec
- separated into 2 sides at tape flip (~28:40)
- balanced channels
- repaired clicks, pops, crackle and drop-outs
- lightly decrackled
- restored clipped peaks
- applied narrow-band notch filter to attenuate VHS noise band
- smoothed out gain and balance changes
- variable phase corrections
- EQ: lowpass filter set at 19.2 kHz. -0.3 dB from 15.7 kHz up
- Side A: high-pass (rumble) filter set at 48 Hz
- Side B: reduced broadband noise by 1.4 dB
- edited tape flip (tf) at 4:16 of Tripe Face Boogie (during closing applause)
- cleaned up fade out on closing applause at end of concert
- joined the two sides and edited tape flip
- goody pitch verified
FlyingM:
- clean up high-end background noise
- EQed for more presence, widen stereo image
- repaired some remaining clicks and pops
Closing Comments:
Oh wow, you can now hear the cymbals -- this sounds really good now.
A really big thanks to FlyingM without whose assistance this project would have remained shelved indefinitely.
Love his magic touch!
And now I have cleared the decks (except for 1 more remaster) so I cn turn to some master
and 1st gens that are upgrades to existing sources for sure. stay tuned.
Enjoy,
plaz & FlyingM
