JEMS is pleased to extend a new round of recordings in collaboration with Boston-area taper Steve Hopkins. Over the years, Hopkins has lent us several of his master tapes to make what we hope are definitive transfers of his outstanding work, which we regard as some of the highest quality audience recordings made in the 1970s.

Steve handpicked nine shows for this batch of new, high-resolution transfers and mastering, and our series continues with Little Feat.

Little Feat was on tour supporting The Last Record Album, released in the fall of 1975. Three songs from it feature this night: "All That You Dream" and "One Love Stand," both sung by Lowell George, and "Day Or Night" sung by keyboard player Bill Payne. The rest of the set revisits most of the band's better known material including "Rock and Roll Doctor," "Dixie Chicken" and of course the incomparable "Willin'," which features a guest vocal from Charlie Daniels whose namesake band opened the show.

It seems obvious to mention that listening to this show reminded me of what a huge influence Little Feat had on the jam bands that followed. While they themselves took a page from the Grateful Dead's playbook among others, the Feat doesn't get nearly enough credit for helping define the sound of the genre.

As always, Steve is in an ideal position to capture the set resulting in an excellent recording. Hopkins' tape has circulated before, but we are confident the azimuth- and pitch-adjusted transfer and gentle mastering do provide a welcome upgrade to previous incarnations.

Thanks once again to Steve Hopkins for allowing JEMS to present another of his audience captures in a fresh light and for his patience with the process. JEMS transfers a lot of audience recordings from the 1970s and Steve's work continues to stand among the very best. Please show your gratitude in the comments.

As always, we deeply appreciate the on-going support of Professor Goody for helping adjust pitch and mjk5510 for handling post production with a steady hand.

BK for JEMS
