This is the remaining footage from the live telecast
of "The Closing of Winterland" which aired on KQED,
and KQEC public television. It was simulcast on
KSAN FM radio in San Francisco. Because home VCRs were
just introduced (SONY Betamax)in 1978, very few copies
of this were recorded. Also, SONY did not introduce
Hi-Fi audio Betamax until the mid 1980's. The audio
track was hand-synched using nothing more than a cassette
deck with a pitch control and headphones and two
video decks. The result is nearly perfect. Portions of
this retain the original television audio, as some
interviews were not simulcast on radio. I have removed
all officially released content. The original end credits
from the broadcast were recreated with new information
pertaining to the official production - "The Closing of Winterland",
now available commercially.
