This demo does not come directly from an original tape. This was in my tape collection from 90's tape trading. Likely 2nd or 3rd gen. I'm now realizing the Fire and Good Times Bad Times appear to be previously uncirculated. Or at least, not seemingly widely available in modern times. The track order of the Junta tracks are slightly different than other versions of the demo. It appears as though there are probably 5 or more demo tapes like this from the era.
Regarding Fire & Good Times Bad Times from the demo tape. After Fire, Trey can be heard to say "don't go anywhere" which would indicate the end of a set. Before GTBT a fan is heard saying "total Syd Barrett tune" which would aim to Bike having just been played. On paper it looks like 5/22/88 (or 21) at Nectars. But checking the audio it is a different performance. Phish.net only lists Fire and Good Times Bad Times from 4/2/88 Full Moon Party, Humphries House, Amherst College but Phish.com has a more complete setlist which includes Bike, GTBT. It also sounds like a party in smaller space. That said there are a lot of unaccounted for performances in 87-88. So it could be any of those as well. I did grow up near Amherst and did trade tapes with people there. Wish I had better records or memories. Either way it appears to be a good find and I wish the GTBT was not cut. If anyone has any more information please let me know.
