*** This is an excellent sounding show, the source given to me was SBD>Cass/0>DAT,
I am not sure if this is a SBD or just an excellent AUD recording, I could make up

This is most definately NOT a SBD. This sounds more like a FOB or a recording from the OTS.....The clarity is not there as in SBD's from this era....Also, there is too much of an "auditorium" quality to Mike's low-end notes. Not to mention that you can REALLY hear the drums reverb in the room.

I am going to have to agree with you Mr. Marmar, I struggled with this for a long time, but you bring up some good points.

Was there even an OTS at the Flynn? My memory is hazy but I think in 92, people just set up where they could.

The Flynn has excellent sound, and the two Phish shows there in '92 (3-12 and 5-18) I remember as being the best sound quality Phish shows I've ever heard. A taper could get an excellent recording there because the sound was so crystal clear and defined, without phasing or too much reflectivity (the walls had intermittent curtains). Seating was general admission. They opened the doors and it was a first-come-first-serve rush to grab the best seats. There were a few tapers in attendance (about five or so) at both shows, and they generally sat in the center about 15-20 rows back. There was no official taper section, but they tended to clump together in the same 'sweet spot' area for obvious reasons.

Compared to some of the other venues of the time,
I don't remember the sound quality at the Flynn
as being particularly noteworthy, in fact, I remember
it having a somewhat cavernous character to it.
It certainly didn't sound as good as the Portsmouth
Music Hall. Also, the taper section was pretty much in
effect at this time. We had a section as early as
the 3/6-7/92 Portsmouth shows. I'm pretty sure 1991
was the last year where you could set up your rig
pretty much anywhere you wished, although there were
always exceptions (like 7/24/93 Great Woods).

I have a copy of this show on Hi-Fi VHS tape...made from a DAT master. Most likey there is a high-end D/A converter used in the transfer (possibly an EAD). I will make an effort to transfer and distribute.
